All Eyes Are on this Sailfish

Dr. Waldrop and his wife, Laurie returned for their second trip this season. John caught his first Black, first Striped Marlin and first Sail on fly. He also completed a Billfish Grand Slam this week! Laurie released her first Striped Marlin. This same week, 10-year old, Zane Andrews was at the helm when the right rigger went off. He jumped down, grabbed the rod, and dropped back the live-bonito to the unknown fish, all according to IGFA rules. Raleigh Werking was onboard and coached Zane through his first Black Marlin battle lasting 3 hours on 50 lb line.Unfortunately, the fish came up dead. It weighed in at 321 pounds and did not go to waste. We are a very proud of Zane who has driven the boat on other Marlin and Sailfish releases for his friends, but this time he caught his first!

Dr. Eric Prince released 17 Sails and a Striped Marlin during his short stay. Eric is doing important research on the migration of billfish and satellite tagged several Sails. This work is so important to our sport, thanks Eric. Good friends, Guy Harvey and his daughter Jessica visited us again and filmed more for Guy's "Portraits from the Deep" TV series, this time showcasing Dr. Prince's tagging program. Guy and Jessica fished and dove the drift lines and had a most amazing experience, witnessing a free swimming Sailfish and even a Sail grabbing a bait while diving with Tunas and surrounded by bait fish! Guy and Jessica released 12 Sails and 2 Striped Marlin in three days; they also Satellite tagged a Marlin.
