Every once in a while when the planets align, something very special happens at Tropic Star. Last week, the bite was off the charts. Marlin were eating just about anything you could throw on a line. It started on Sunday when the fleet released 15 Marlin. Monday and Tuesday the numbers went to the mid 20’s and it’s about that time I began thinking about what happened here on the last week of January 2009….Could it be possible to beat our all time record of 95 Marlin in 1 week? Well, guess what; on the final morning we were up to an amazing 86 Marlin released and everyone here were all fired up. When it was all said and done, it happened; 96 Marlin released in 6 days fishing (NEW LODGE RECORD).One boat released 5 Blues in one day. A total of 15 Black Marlin, 81 Blue Marlin and 47 Sailfish were released. It just doesn't get any better than that.
Oliver (12 yrs old) and Chauncey Morgan (10 yrs old) both released an amazing 9 Marlin in just 6 days fishing. Chauncey released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 500 lbs, PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN and PACIFIC SAILFISH. Oliver released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 350 lbs and first PACIFIC SAILFISH as well.
Gustavo A. Acosta released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 550 lbs and PACIFIC SAILFISH around 100 lbs. His son Gustavo also released his first 500 lb BLACK MARLIN. Mark Brown had an outstanding trip. He released his first BLACK MARLIN, 400 lbs, PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN, 250 lbs and PACIFIC SAILFISH around 100 lbs. His wife Lisa also scored well. She released her first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 400 lbs and PACIFIC SAILFISH around 80 lbs. Jonathan Kravitz released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 500 lbs also had 3 PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN released. His son Noah, released his first BLACK MARLIN, PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN and PACIFIC SAILFISH.
Gary Milligan released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 300 lbs and His wife Lynette Milligan released a BLACK MARLIN estimated at 350 lbs and PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN, 250 lbs. George Holzmacher was “Over the Moon” when he released his first BLACK MARLIN that went 450 lbs and later on released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN that went 500 lbs. Nick Titus released his first BLACK MARLIN estimated at 400 lbs. and PACIFIC SAILFISH estimated at 60 lbs. Riley Feldman got his dream fish, a 400 lb BLACK MARLIN. Mike Jutt released his first BLACK MARLIN, 400 lbs and also his first PACIFIC SAILFISH, 125 lbs.
Jeff Robey and Brady Rockwell both released their first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN estimated at 400 lbs. Gary also released a monster PACIFIC SAILFISH that went 150+ lbs. Gary Titus and Jim Armstrong released their first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN in the 350 lb range, and Brady Rockwell released his first PACIFIC BLUE MARLIN, 300 lbs.
