Tropic Star Lodge and Sport Fishing Resort in Pinas Bay Panama - Black Marlin Capital of the World

Charles Tullio's Black Marlin weighing approximately 400lbsAs we enter the month of March we continue to catch a few Black Marlin offshore and there were a few decent sized Yellowfin Tunas out on the drop-off. The inshore bite has been beyond our expectations. Roosterfish and Cubera Snappers were piled up on the coast and anglers enjoyed some of the best Inshore I’ve seen here in a few years. One boat released an amazing 20 Roosterfish and 3 Cubera Snappers in one day and many other crews managed to put our guests on the action. They were eating the live baits as soon as you could get them in the water and quite a few were taken on plugs and poppers. Anglers released some monster Roosterfish in the 80+ range and Cubera Snapper that were in the 50-60 lb range. Among the other fish caught were Broomtail Groupers, Almaco Jacks and African Pompanos.

Andrew Linder's Black MarlinOnce again, it’s been a great 2 weeks of fishing at Pinas Bay. The Black Marlin bite has been very consistent and despite a  few slow days fishing our guests had a great Tropic Star experience. The Blue Marlin Bite has slowed down which is expected around this time of year. Quite a few anglers had ventured inshore for other opportunities and scored some really good sized Roosterfish and Cubera Snappers. Catching bait was again difficult at times but I am sure you know by now that our crews are the best in the business and even when bonitos hard to catch they pull the tricks out of the bag.

John and Chrissie Jackson's MarlinLast week the Black Marlin bite continued to be consistent although it was indeed slow at times for some. A few Blue Marlin showed up on the 100 fathom curve as well and a couple lucky anglers also got into some of the action. The inshore bite is shaping up well; a few huge Roosterfish, up to 65 lbs and Cubera Snappers are being caught and released.

Rufus Wakeman MarlinThe last two weeks of fishing has been good despite the fact that bait has been somewhat difficult to catch both on the reef and offshore. There has been some big Black Marlin  cruising around and many of them were seen tailing.  There was even a story of a particular fish that came up on teaser but did not eat; captain said around 1,100 lbs. The crews worked hard to put our guests on billfish and on a few occasions we were also blessed with pods of huge Yellowfin Tunas .
