Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna

Sailfish jumping in the waters off PanamaDecember continues to be great fishing and this season and surprise, surprise; there are  great numbers of sails around mixed in with the Black and Blue Marlin. There are quite a few giants around, in the 500-600 lb range .Yellowfin Tunas continue to show up on the ledge and our guests really enjoyed playing tug-of-war with them. Most were in the 100 lb range and as one guest told me, “100 lbs plenty enough!” It is really amazing how hard these fish fight; pound for pound you’d be hard-pressed to find another pelagic in its class.

Blue Marlin in the waters off Pinas Bay PanamaOne of  great stories this week would be Mr. Carroll Keys. He came to the lodge in search of Yellowfin Tuna. He caught a few in the 100 lb range  but was even more contented with 2 Black Marlin and 2 Pacific Blue Marlin released. Here’s the catch; Carroll is 88 years old! Congrats!  Jerry Gnade had a great trip to Pinas Bay. He released his first Black Marlin estimated at 350 lbs and also hooked into his first Pacific Blue Marlin, a monster that went 550 lbs. Jeff Bess and his wife Stefani also were here this week and had some great fishing. Jeff released his first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 500 lbs and first Pacific Sailfish that went 150 lbs. Now that’s a big Sail! His wife Stefani also released a huge pacific Sail estimated at 150 lbs. Their friends Shawn and Andrea Bates were also happy to be here in Pinas Bay this week and did well. Shawn released his first Black Marlin estimated at 500 lbs and Andrea topped of f the trip with a huge Pacific Sailfish in the  140+ range.

My good friends from Chile were here this week and scored some great fish on their trip. Thomas Robinson released his first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at 400 lbs and Pedro Jaque released his first Pacific Blue Marlin around 250 lbs. Darrell Valenti released his first Black Marlin estimated at 400 lbs and Gavin Valenti released his first Pacific Blue Marlin around 300 lbs. Roy Clark released his first Pacific Blue Marlin, 420 lbs and Stephen Fosdick also released his first Pacific Blue marlin estimated at 400 lbs and Pacific Sailfish around 80 lbs. Jeff Dwyer released his first Black Marlin estimated at 400 lbs and Carlos Davidov released his first Pacific Blue Marlin , 350 lbs. John Vaught, Bart Savage and Ryan Sizemore all released their first Pacific Sailfish that went 120 lbs.
