Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper

The last two weeks can only be described a wide open offshore bite. With a full lodge and 12 or more boats fishing each week; it’s as good as it gets. The ocean erupted with bait and acres of bonitos and skipjack tunas showed up both on the reef and on the ledge, 12 to 25 miles offshore. Sail-fishing has been spectacular and the Black Marlin and Blue Marlin bite is improving by the day. Acres of Yellowfin Tuna are here now, feeding on the gigantic bait balls of blue runners on the drop-off and most of our guests got into the action. The TUNA KING, Casey Mcartin, caught an amazing 13 Yellowfin Tunas in the 100-200 lb range. If you into catching 50 lb+ Bull Dorados, there’s no better time to be at TSL. One of the most spectacular sights down here has to be the tuna frenzies that occur offshore. Inshore fishing continues to be spectacular; Roosterfish and Cubera Snappers are everywhere and some huge fish pushing the 60lb mark were caught and released. There’s also a good Wahoo bite inshore.
Amalee Artecona released her first Black Marlin estimated at 400 lbs. Eleven year old Jordan West also released his first Black Marlin, a monster, that went around 500 lbs. Riley Garrett also had great luck on the reef and released his first Black Marlin estimated at 500 lbs. Scott hoover released his first Black Marlin estimated at 400 lbs and junior angler Harrison Hoover nailed his first Pacific Blue Marlin around 300 lbs and Pacific Sailfish, 100 lbs. Furman Cullum released his first Pacific Sailfish estimated at 120 lbs. Andrew Klein and Jason Artman also released their first Pacific Sailfish estimated at around 110 lbs. Ben Alexander released his first Pacific Blue Marlin around 250 lbs.
The following anglers also released their first Pacific Sailfish:
Cesar Corrales-100 lbs
Cathy Needleman-80 lbs
Emile Erdmann-100 lbs
Meg Erdmann-100 lbs
Andrew Klein-110 lbs
Sue Moore-90 lbs
Will Flugel-100 lbs
Stan Flugel-100 lbs
Diana Rogers-80 lbs
Peggy Ongna-100 lbs
Dan Tillery-95 lbs
Jason Artman-110 lbs
I suspect that August and September will be just as good or even better fishing; and with a full lodge there’s no telling what the numbers will be like. All I can say is that it’s gonna be a good one.
Tight Lines!
