Jesus Grecco proudly showing off this heafty Dorado catchOffshore: The Sailfish bite continues to be good thru the first two weeks of April and the bite has been especially good just in front of our bay, within 2 miles of the club. Sardine schools are popping up all along the coast and this is why the Sailfish come every season around this time.
Inshore: The Roosterfish bite has been rather slow lately due to a series of large ground swells that churned up the inshore coastal waters making it difficult for our crews to get to the hotspots.

Inshore fishing targets large Roosterfish Gigantic Roosterfish and huge numbers of Cubera Snapper are stretching the lines and most anglers are having a great time with the different variety of inshore species such as Broomtail Grouper and African Pompano and Almaco Jack, so rest assured, we were well fed at the dinner table.

Sailfish are showing up along the coast offshore from the Tropic Star Lodge in PanamaThis March the inshore fishing has been nothing short of spectacular and our crews are getting many of our guest’s shots at some trophy-sized Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Broomtail Grouper, Almaco Jacks and a host of other species.  We are catching them mostly on slow trolled live baits but this season we’ve bumped up the game somewhat.  Anglers are having loads of fun casting poppers at them  and  let me say that catching a 60lb + Roosterfish on a surface popper  is perhaps the most challenging  angling task  as these are very formidable fighters indeed.

Striped Marlin ready for releaseAs we begin our February month, the offshore bite as slowed down significantly due to a very unique set of changing water conditions. We experienced a huge cold front which swept in from the north and the water off of Piñas Bay became cooler than normal. Pelagic such as Black and Blue Marlin really depend on the warmer currents to thrive well and with the colder water the bite has slowed. The water conditions were great for Striped Marlin and a few showed up on the 100 fathom curve.
