HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I’m pleased to report that the Christmas and New Year’s week has exceeded our expectations. The billfish bite has been nothing but spectacular and His Majesty the Black Marlin has arrived just in time for the holidays. There’s also a really fantastic Blue Marlin bite and Sail fishing has been very explosive. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen this many Dorado, some in the 60+ lb class. Boats were catching sometimes 15-20 in a day. The weather has also been great and besides for a few odd choppy days, the seas were fairly calm.
Terri Moss released the biggest Black Marlin for the week, a beautiful 500 lb fish. Colton and Tyler both celebrated their birthday last week and they both did it in style. They hooked into a double header Black Marlin and Blue Marlin and after a lot of effort and some really fancy boat handling skills they got them both. It was Tyler’s first Black Marlin estimated at 350 lbs and Colton’s first Blue Marlin estimated at around 450 lbs. Colton topped off his week with a huge Yellowfin Tuna that weighed 160 lbs.
Jimmy Burns released his first Black Marlin around 450 lbs and Robert Collins released his first Black Marlin around 350 lbs to complete his ROYAL SLAM! Congratulations Robert on your once in a lifetime accomplishment. His wife Chrissie released her first Pacific Blue Marlin around 200 lbs, and Ralph Schrager also released his first Pacific Blue Marlin.
Jerry and his wife Telma Hauth were on fire last week and released a bunch of billfish. Jerry got his first Black Marlin estimated at 450 lbs and 350 lb Pacific Blue Marlin. Telma released her first Pacific Blue Marlin around 200 lbs. Kai Lassen, Sally Dykes, Colter Carzoli and Jim Phillips all released their first Pacific Blue Marlin in the 350-400 lb range and Steve Lee as well as Hugh McCauley, both released their first Pacific Blue Marlin estimated at around 300-350 lbs. Tyler Lassen scored his first Pacific Blue Marlin, 250 lbs.
We all cannot wait to see what the next few weeks will be like but as far as fishing goes it’s been one of the best Christmas and New Year we’ve seen for a couple of years.
Tight Lines!
