We are now in full swing now and looking forward to the second half our 2013 Season. The Sailfish bite has been very strong steady and we’re getting more opportunities as the weeks roll by. There’s also lots of Dorado offshore and a few Blue Marlin were released over the last few weeks. Inshore has been nothing short of spectacular; Huge Roosterfish and Cubera Snapper have taken up residence along the coast and many guests are having no trouble getting into some serious action. Weather conditions are fairly good but there seems to be a little more rain than normal for this time of the year.
Dave Wertz brought his wife Deborah and son Dylan down to the lodge for a week of fishing. He grew up in Panama during the 80’s and 90’s and had been here on several occasions but never had an opportunity to catch a Marlin. This time he got his wish and released not one but his 2 Blue Marlin the biggest, 400 lbs. His wife Deborah released a Monster Roosterfish estimated at 80+ lbs; one of the biggest caught for the season.
William “Bill” Chein brought his wife Jean and two sons Zachary and Brandon down on the advice of one of TSL’s favorite guests, Mr. Rick Whipple. Bill had an amazing story to tell….. One morning, his son Zack released his first Blue Marlin estimated at 250 lbs and later in the day the captain saw a Swordfish tailing on the surface out on the edge. He immediately ran across to the fish and pitched a small goggle-eye at the tailing fish. The sword turned on it, inhaled the live bait and Bill was hooked up to the fish of a lifetime on his spinning tackle. After 1-1/2 hours of an incredible fight the fish was boated and weighed in at an impressive 129.4 lbs. This was the first Swordfish caught in over 8 years and Bill was over the moon with his first Sword landed. His 2 sons Zack and Brandon also released their first Sailfish in the 100 lb range, 40-60 lb Roosterfish, numerous Almaco Jacks and a couple of Cubera Snapper to top of a truly unforgettable week of fishing at TSL.
Michael Ewers also brought his family down for a week of fishing at TSL. His wife Stacie, two daughters; Michaela and Megan and 5 year old Tanner all released their first Pacific Sailfish in the 100-110 lb range. Otto Ewers also released his first Pacific Sailfish and Otto, Mike, Stacie and Tanner also scored some trophy sized Roosterfish up to 65 lbs. Other catches of note were by Hayden and Harrison Englert, who released their first Pacific Sailfish. Brian Perin and Brandon Parr also released their first Pacific Sailfish estimated at 100-110 lbs.
We’ve got a ton of great photos to show off this time so hope you enjoy the scenery.
