Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
April 15 - 22
This week was really fun for us. We had a big crew from all over the States plus half of a dozen guys here from Brazil. Everyone enjoyed himself or herself, both on and off the water. We had a mid week picnic at White beach. It is a perfect location for a laid back lunch.
The fishing was hot and cold. We saw a few marlin flags early in the week. The Roosterfish are still cooperating. There were a couple of Wahoo on the dock. Small tuna were schooled up as far as the eye could see.
Sailfish are free jumping close to shore, up and down the coast. They are getting ready for the sardine all you can eat buffet. Many of the sardines near the dock are smaller, but growing rapidly. The bait ball I saw last week was made up of large sardines. They were probably part of an early hatch.
The guests saw plenty of Sails, yet the fish were not responding to their spread.
I am not sure why the fish are being so finicky, but history says that it is about to be sailfish time.
For this weeks report the Sails were the most numerous. In total, the crews released 59 Sailfish.
2 Blue Marlin were released this week. 1 Black Marlin was tagged and released.
13 Roosterfish were released after a quick picture. 5 Cubera were landed and 1 Wahoo which weighed around 40lbs.
Jan Forman and Mark Ellert caught their first Blue Marlin.
Josh Emilson caught a bunch of firsts. He released his Pacific Sail, first Roosterfish, Yellowfin tuna and a Cubera Snapper. This guy loves to fish and it shows.
His mom Lynda Emilson caught her first Pacific Sail, her first Wahoo, roosterfish and her first Tuna.
David Emilson released his first Roosterfish and his first Pacific Sail.
Carl Emilson released his first Roosterfish and so did his daughter Laura Riekert. Laura, I agree, I was thinking of something with wire frames also. Great joke.
Carol Schorr caught and released her first Roosterfish. She has fished here for many years and finally went inshore to take care of business.
Mr. Nepomuceno caught his first Pacific Sail, his first Roosterfish and his first Amberjack.
His buddy Heloisio Lopes released his first Black, Sail along with a Roosterfish and an Amberjack.
Jose Ivo Brito caught his first Sail. He also caught his first Tuna.
Dari Bowman released her first Pacific Sailfish.
Robert Herlin caught his first Sail as well. Carol Herlin caught a nice Roosterfish, her first.
David Dickerson was not messing around with the Cubera Snapper he brought back to the dock. It was a pig of a snapper. He has the fangs with him for a little show and tell.
William Bowman caught his first Roosterfish.
Charles Knuth released his first Pacific Sail and so did Cynthia Pugh.
Tight lines,
Christopher Dinwiddie
Dock Master
