Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
April 1 - 7
Green water is everywhere, but warm blue water is not too far away..
This week was full of rock fishing. Most crews caught some true trophy Roosterfish this week.
This week was full of trophy Roosterfish and Cubera Snapper. The Marlin were scarce, but two crews managed to land their first. We hosted one potential World Record Roosterfish, caught by Raleigh Werking. The fish weighed in at 54.6 pounds and was landed on 8 pound line - excellent work Raleigh! Another World Record Roosterfish was released. The fish was released after being landed on 30 pound gear by lady angler Dalva Foster.
The weather was great with exception of a few showers. These showers help significantly. The rain brings the nutrients to the sea. This enables the sardines to feed and kicks off the whole food chain this time of year.
As I write this report, the radio is sounding off about marlin all over the place. You will have to wait until next weeks report for all the juicy details, but it looks like it is going to be a great week. Today, April 10, 2006, 4 marlin tagged so far today.
Paul Roush caught his first Black Marlin aboard Miss Coast Rica with Captain Libardo at the helm. The Black Marlin was estimated to weigh 400lbs. Lucky for this crew, they had little Miss Jessie helping them with bait detail.
Richard Levee managed to release his first Black Marlin ever aboard the Miss Spain, with Captain Maso at the wheel. Both of these Marlin ate live bonita.
Catherine Turner caught her very first Roosterfish and released it. It weighed an estimated 70lbs. She was fishing aboard our newest Bertram, Miss South Africa with Captain Gilberto and her husband Mac "too tall" Turner. Mac landed a stout Amberjack. It hit the scales at 50lbs.
Mike Richardson caught a 60-Pound Roosterfish.
Gena and Curtis Frisbie caught a mixed back of firsts. They both caught their first Roosterfish and their first Yellowfin Tuna. The Rooster was in the 50lb range and the tuna were roughly half that size. Curtis caught a nice Wahoo as well.
Rita Montgomery battled a huge Cubera Snapper. It was every bit of 45lbs.
Val Senter caught a really nice Cubera as well. Her fish was a bit larger than Rita’s.
Val caught her first Roosterfish as well. She was fishing with her husband Don, who managed to release his first Roosterfish as well.
William Hawal was excited to release his first Roosterfish. He said the fish was in the 40lb range.
Mark Petroff released his first 45lb Roosterfish as well.
Ted Pruc caught a 55lb Roosterfish that was his very first.
Dean Martens can scratch a 40-Pound Roosterfish off his list of things to catch.
Raymond Horwood was happy to join the club, releasing a 45lb Rooster Fish.
Last but not least James Janosek released a 50lb Rooster Fish. It was his first.
Stand by for next weeks report.
