Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
April 2 - April 9
This week started off right with some typical dry season weather and a little north wind. This is all it took to turn on the Black Marlin this week and everyone enjoyed this late surprise. The marlin have been holding back a little this season, but it only took a little time for them to show back up. So far this week we have released 17 Blacks, a Blue and a few Striped Marlin as well, along with numerous sailfish.
We were greeted this week by a great group of doctors from different areas of the States. They fished nine boats between them and many people in the group were able to catch a Black Marlin.
Dr. Don Iden and Dr. John Ranchoff fished on the Miss England and each were able to get a black. Both fish were tough 400+ pounders which kept each of them in the chair for close to three hours. Way to go guys!!
Dr. Reynaldo Arosemena fished with George Poletes on the Miss Panama with Captain Dagoberto and had a fantastic week. It started off with Dr. Arosemena catching a nice 450 pound black which was also satellite tagged, so weŽll have to wait and see where this fish travels. Later in the week George was able to get his Black as well and actually stayed a couple days longer and caught another one on Thursday, Great week!!
Doctors Ted Toland, Ira Thorla, Lee Grafton, and Paul Plowman had a good week as well with Dr. Toland releasing his first sail and Lee releasing his first sail as well as multiple Black Marlin. Dr. Thorla was able to get his first Black Marlin and Paul Plowman caught and released his first, and only of the week, Blue Marlin with Captain Gavilan on the Miss Island Star.
Dr. Fish, who organized the trip for all 27 of them, came down with his wife and two of his sons, Collin and Jesse. They were all able to get into some of the sailfish action and Collin and Jesse were able to get their firsts.
Doctor Steve Hegedus was able to catch his first sailfish this week along with Simon, and father David Whiting.
Doctor Bryan Townsend and his wife Pam came down from Texas and had a fantastic week fishing with Captain Jose on the Miss Canada. Bryan was able to release his first Black Marlin and caught numerous sailfish as well.
We at the lodge had a great time with this group of doctors and we hope to see all of them back sometime soon. Thanks again.
Ira Lobis and his wife came down with Mr. and Mrs. Mulveny. They fished with Captain Maso and Mate Alexi on the Miss Spain. On Wednesday Ira was able to catch his first Black Marlin. This 450 pound fish was also satellite tagged and released in great condition. Great job Ira!!
Jerry and Telma Hauth came all the way down from Seattle Washington in search of a few sailfish, which they had no trouble finding. They fished on the Miss Tropic Star with Captain Alberto and had a fantastic week. The first day on the water Jerry not only caught his first sailfish, but it was on fly as well. He ended up landing two on fly that day, and Telma was able to release a few of her own as well.
We had a great time with everyone this past week and hope everyone can come back and visit us again.
Tight lines,
Whit
