This week we had some visitor’s from all corners of the globe to enjoy some superb fishing and 1 lucky angler who got his second SUPER GRAND SLAM at Tropic Star Lodge!

One can only describe it as a dream come true. Gus Vogeler caught a SUPER GRAND SLAM on his previous visit and repeated the achievement with another SUPER GRAND SLAM this time. Gus made it clear on his arrival that he was striving to have the same week he did last year. Not only did he achieve that, but caught himself a monster of a Yellowfin tuna of about 100lbs and a number of Dorado up to 50lbs. His tally for the week was 1 Blue Marlin, 1 Black Marlin, 1 Striped Marlin and 18 Sailfish. Another week that he will not easily forget!

Chic McSherry brought his 2 sons all the way from Scotland for some memorable fishing here at Tropic Star. Jamie and Scott had an absolute blast. Jamie caught his first Blue Marlin while younger brother Scott caught his first Black Marlin. On their 1 day of inshore fishing the bite was just as hot and they caught 10 Roosterfish between them. Jamie had 1 of 52lbs and Scott a 57lb Daddy. They had plenty of sailfish action and ended the week with 28 sailfish.

Avid fishing friend’s, Mike Messina, Bill Magaziner, Rob Gilmore and Tim Taeble could not have asked for a better time. Tim Taeble not only caught his first Blue Marlin but repeated his performance on the next day with yet another Blue. Bill and Rob had one of their best days fishing when they caught 11 Saifish, 2 Yellowfin tuna, 5 Dorado and 4 large Rainbow Runners on their first day’s fishing. On their last day they all decided to go inshore for Roosterfish. Tim caught a Rooster of about 60lbs and Bill a70lb monster, while over on the Miss South Africa Mike and Rob caught 50lb and 70lb Rooster fish.

Unfortunately due to business commitments, Danny Mimms and his father Earle, could only stay for 4 days. That was all Danny needed though to get his first Black Marlin, a good fighting fish of 500lbs. To this they also added a whopping 20 Sailfish and 2 Rooster fish on their journey inshore.

Andre Botton of Brazil was joined by his fishing friend James Moran from Australia. Both thoroughly enjoyed casting poppers and caught plenty of Rooster and Snapper this way. James got a huge Snapper of 45lbs while Andre caught Roosterfish of up to 60lbs. James also caught a good size Tarpon of about 70lbs.

Russ and Randy Coleman are 2 brothers who enjoy everything they do. They had 3 days of fun aboard the Costa Rica with Libardo. Russ had the boat to himself on the last day when Randy went exploring in the jungle. What a day he had 5 sailfish and a 40lb Dorado all on his own.

Again we had a friendly competition between a group of 9 friends. In between all the fun, Mike Huey caught his first Blue Marlin and a 100lb yellowfin Tuna, young Derek Robinson copied him with his first Blue Marlin of almost the exact same size. Bill Robinson got a huge Dorado of about 40lbs. With everybody having plenty of sailfish action they ended their 4 day stay with a total of 66 sailfish and 2 Blue Marlin. The eventual winner was Russ Fischer with a total of 34 points.

The Duquesnoy family from France had another fun weeks fishing with Captain Candelo on the Miss Australia catching the most sailfish amongst the boats. They just beat the McSherry’s with a total of 30 to their 28.

Catch for the Week:
Black Marlin 3
Blue Marlin 6
Striped Marlin 1
Pacific Sailfish 214
Yellowfin tuna 25
Dorado 35
Amberjack 4
Roosterfish 35
Snapper 6
Wahoo 9
