The guests this week were extremely happy with their experience at Tropic Star. The Marlin bite was outstanding. The Tuna were few, but very large. Wahoo came in droves. Rock fishing was productive for Snapper and Roosterfish. Fun was had by all!
The Action:
Harold and Marie Putallaz came all the way from New York to fish at Tropic Star. These two had great attitudes and great smiles the whole time they were here. Marie caught her first Pacific Sail and Harold caught his first Blue Marlin their very first day. They fished aboard Miss England with Captain Gustavo. One day the Putallazs chose to fish close to shore for some different species. They ended up landing 7 Wahoo, several Roosterfish and a few big Amberjack. Harold busted out some top water plugs and worked the rocks for jacks and snapper. “Non-stop action, unbelievable, I do not know where the day went,” exclaimed Harold when he first stepped on the dock. He also said that he was “Totally satisfied!” Marie said it best when she said, “This place is wonderful!” They are coming back as soon as they can to tangle with Black Marlin.
Bill and Michelle Worden came to Tropic Star to have a picture perfect honeymoon. These two had a blast fishing aboard the Miss Scandia with Captain Walter at the helm. Bill caught a Grand Slam consisting of a Black, a Blue and a Pacific Sail. “Walter hustled the whole week, he and Mario kept putting us on the fish day after day!” said Bill. Michelle got into the action with a huge Yellow fin. Her first fish tipped the scales at 266lbs! She also caught her first Black Marlin and first Pacific Sail. They were on the hunt for a Blue Marlin to complete a double grand slam, but came up with another Tuna. Michelle said, “Unbelievable fishing, #1 in the world!” This was one tough fish. Michelle endured a two hour plus fight with this fish. Add 9-Pacific Sails, 3 Cubera Snapper and 1 Almaco Jack to the tally and you can see why these two get my vote for Honeymoon of the Year.
The Yim crew came from Seattle to see what this place was all about. The Yim party jumped on eight boats and went straight to work. There were Marlin release flags on almost every Bertram. These guys were a lot of fun and they had a blast with the entire staff. The funniest moment happened after all of the boats returned from a day of fishing. Drew Yim was fishing off the dock when he hooked something big. He was getting to the end of his line when Dock Master Luis got Miss Panama involved. It was quite a sight to see Luis and Drew in the cockpit fighting some huge fish twenty feet off the dock. The beer drinking crowd grew and so did the comedy. Lots of helpful words of encouragement came from the dock as the fight continued. They had to do some fancy rod work to get around a mooring. The whole fight lasted roughly twenty minutes. It turned out to be a huge stingray. Drew thought it was a riot and everyone on the dock got a good laugh out of the events that took place.
This crew did very well out in blue water. There were 17 anglers in the party. 7 caught their first Black Marlin, 3 caught their first Blue Marlin and 11 caught their first Pacific Sails.
Ron Naden was fired up about his first big Black Marlin he tagged. He was also fired up about his first 50lb tuna. He caught these fish with Captain Jose while fishing Miss Canada. Ron said, “ I had the best Captain!” His mate was Arnufol. He said, “The two of them made a great team!” Ron also said, “My old lady caught her first Pacific Sailfish. That was really cool to watch!”
Drew Yim cheered for his sister Sue while she fought her first Sail and first Blue Marlin. He also got to witness his wife Angel releasing her first Pacific Sail. They fished with Captain Maso on Miss Alaska. Drew also released his First Pacific Sail. Sue said that, “Reeling for 1.5 hours for my first Blue Marlin was worth every ache.”
Dennis let his first Pacific Sail swim free after an acrobatic fight. Sergey Shur tagged his first Blue Marlin. Both were fishing aboard Miss Alaska.
Another couple, Bona Un and Michelle Vaara each caught their first Blacks and first Sails while fishing on Miss Panama with Captain Dagoberto. Michelle said that, “I am so pleased to have caught so many different kinds of fish.” This couple caught a wide variety of species. They had a blast.
Aboard the South Africa, Diann Coffin and David Shur both caught their first Black Marlin. Diann caught her first Pacific sail.
Emanuel caught his first Blue Marlin and his wife Cosmina caught her first Pacific Sail.
They were fishing aboard Miss Puerto Rico with Captain Isauro.
Jonathan Ima caught his first Black Marlin and his first Pacific Sail. Seven-month-old Marcus Ima was voted smoothest sailor while aboard Miss England for half a day with Captain Flaco.
Tight Lines,
Christopher Dinwiddie
