August 6 - 12

We had a fun week here at Tropic Star. There were lots of first Sails caught and the Roosterfish are still cooperating. The Roosters are big and they are hungry. The Marlin made their presence known on several occasions this week.

Overall, the seas have been very calm or fairly sloppy. We did get some rough weather for a couple days, but these crews experienced some really nice days as well.

On the nice days the crews could see the sails finning offshore and were able to put some live baits out in front of them. Sight casting is always fun.

Alain Duquesnoy and Francoise Boutrand had a blast fishing with Candelo. They caught 2 Black Marlin and 16 Roosterfish. These two reported monster Roosters along the rocks. The measurements on the biggest one made the fish weigh 86lbs in theory. Anyway you look at the numbers, they caught some nice fish and more importantly, they had a really good time. These 2 have been here several times before and they said that it was one of their best visits to date.

James Grookett caught his first Roosterfish which weighed 65lbs. He also caught his first Cubera Snapper which was 35lbs.

Peter Kontny caught and released an 80lb Roosterfish and his first Pacific Sailfish.

Kevin De Silva released his first Pacific Sailfish.

Peter Wirtz released a monster Roosterfish. They estimated the fish to weigh 95lbs! Peter also released his first Pacific Sail.

Marvin and Graham Jepsen released their first Sail and his first Roosterfish.

Martin Bronstein caught and released his very first Black Marlin. His son Matthew released his first Blue Marlin with Gustavo on Miss England.

Christopher Parten caught and released his first Roosterfish and his first Pacific Sail. Robert Wallace released his first Pacific Sailfish along with Todd. Michael Williams and Skeet caught their first Sailfish and Skeet managed to release his first Black Marlin. These guys had a blast fishing with Libardo on Miss Costa Rica.

Daniel Apperson was lucky enough to catch his first Blue Marlin but lost the rod over board while trying to take a quick snap shot. Stuff happens and Dan was a good sport. I forgot to tell him that he was voted Best Dressed by most of the staff this week. We do not normally see a lot of Speedos down here, but Dan made sure to change that while he was here. Dan and the rest of his gang each released their first Pacific Sailfish. They were fishing with Dagoberto and Gavilan on the Panama and Island Star. The crew consisted of Steven Shell, Jeff Thomas, Robert Silver, Steven Westbrook and Robert Whittle.

Jeffrey Wartman and Kathy Wartman released their first Pacific Sailfish. They had a good time with Bonnie and Paul Hargrett who did the same. Paul was the lucky one who got to wrestle with a nice Roosterfish as well.

Steve Hunter, Robbie Robison and Kyle Hunter all came down to fish with Alberto on Miss Tropic Star. Steven caught and released a really nice Black Marlin while Kyle and Robbie got into the Sail and Rooster action.
