December 18 - 23
This past week we ran 8 boats on 4-day charters, this is a first that we have run this many boats for this week in December. You can expect great fishing year round at Tropic Star Lodge.

The Action:

We released 4 black marlin from 8 strikes, 2 blue marlin from 5 strikes, 41 sailfish released and we caught 168 dolphin!

The Miss Scandia with captain Chito raised three marlin and released 2 black marlin. Anglers Steve Goodridge and Steve Dingle were the lucky anglers, they also released 4 sailfish - well done.

Scott with his wife Debbie and dad Ron Dingle fished the Miss Puerto Rico, they released 7 sails, raised a black marlin and caught 54 dolphin!

Rich, Michael and Charles Schuelke, Larry Fugle and Nick Paris fished the Miss Island Star and Costa Rica. Larry Fugle caught a great dolphin fish. Charles caught a 400lb plus blue marlin, his first ever marlin - well done. After some live bait well problems the guys fished the Miss Darien and released 2 black marlin and 1 blue marlin as well as 8 sailfish. Larry even got lucky and landed a greedy seagull!

Steve Bailey and Lal Laurent fished the Miss Panama. They released 1 black marlin and 4 sailfish. Thanks for visiting us all the way from London and Australia.

Martin, Barbara and Matthew Brounstein fished the Miss Australia they released 2 sails and spent a lot of time rock fishing. Matthew caught his first sailfish and then carried on catching a potential world record Jack Crevalle - which he caught fishing from the dock and we managed to weigh the fish. Weighed in at 21.1 pounds and after reviving it for 20 minutes saw the amazing potential record fish swim away. I believe that his is the first time we have caught a record from the dock and the first time we released a potential record fish. Matthew also caught a potential world record mullet snapper 26.8 lbs. Well done guys, hope we can get that school camp off the ground, see you soon.

Larry and his son Richard Gelb fished the Miss Spain, Richard released a nice blue marlin they also released 9 sailfish - well done.

Rob Ruwitch after some magical fishing in Venezuela, came to us looking for a grand slam (blue, black, striped marlin and sailfish). With these fish he would have completed all 9 billfish species over 10 days of fishing - WOW! Any of the three would do but his hope was on the black. Rob released his sailfish then released a black marlin, unfortunately he lost a blue and striped marlin - tough luck Rob. The sea only gives what she wants, maybe next time Rod - well done on your grand slam week.

Great all around offshore fishing - marlins, sails, cubera snappers, amberjacks and potential world records! Only at Tropic Star Lodge.

Seasons Greetings,
Hennie and Ursula Marais
