This week was great. We had cooperative fish and happy anglers. The house was not full due to the holiday season. Those that were here had the place to themselves. The bait was on the reef and the Marlin took full advantage. There were four Marlin hooked at the reef on Monday. Three of which were tagged. The Dorado were present and hungry like always.
The Island Star fished well with Barry C Powers and his Grandfather Emil Mayer. These two were a great crew and had a great time with Captain Gavilan and Gilberto.
This team landed 24 Dorado and 5 tuna. 2 Blue Marlin were tagged and released, one of which was Barry´s first Pacific Blue Marlin. Emil Mayer at the age of 89 released a Blue Marlin. They released 10 Sails and one more Black Marlin. They also had a couple Amberjack and 1 nice snapper. Excellent way to spend the holiday.
The McMichael family came down from South Carolina to get away and spend some quality time fishing with Captain Dagoberto and Mate Alexi. This family fished half a week. They were here long enough for Dale to catch his first Blue Marlin and Terry was able to land her first Pacific Sail. They also landed 5 Dorado, 2 Snapper, 3 Amberjacks and 2 Grouper.
Miss Costa Rica was carrying honeymooners Antonello and Julie Cuomo. They flew all the way from Italy to experience the best Tropic Star has to offer. Antonello caught a Grand Slam for the week. This was his first Sail, first Blue Marlin and first Black Marlin. I was lucky enough to be with him when he caught the Black Marlin. That fish was fierce. I can still picture that fish jumping at the reef. It was late in the day and the fish took a live bait. It was a clean, quick fight that lasted roughly 15 minutes. Other boats were nearby and were able to enjoy the spectacle as well. We estimated that the fish weighed in the neighborhood of 325 pounds. The fish was in great shape when she was released. These two also did some rock fishing with much success. They caught some nice Dorado as well. I must say that this is a great place to spend a honeymoon. Most of our honeymooners have the best success. Congrats Cuomos!
