Santa Claus pays our angler’s a visit and fills their stockings with Marlin and Sailfish. An incredible 6 GRAND SLAMS for the week.
Jim and Lynn Sears, together with their children Casie and Ryan, and Maggie Weeks helped us celebrate Christmas with all the residents of Pinas by contributing to the festivities. They were then rewarded with some of the most amazing fishing.
Ryan achieving the ultimate with a GRAND SLAM for the week. Lynn caught, both, her first Blue Marlin and Black Marlin. Maggie joined in on the action and released her first Pacific Sailfish and Black Marlin. Lynn also had a great workout with a Yellow fin tuna of about 100lbs. They ended with an astonishing total of 3 Black Marlin and 3 Blue Marlin.
Manuel Austin and Caroline Ota have fished off the shores of Hawaii and could not believe how great it was here. Manuel battled for 31/2 hours with a giant of a Blue Marlin estimated at 600lbs for his first Blue Marlin. Caroline was next up with a Black Marlin of nearly 500lbs for her first. Manuel adding another Blue to his tally. He caught his first Black Marlin the following day together with a Pacific Sailfish and completed his GRAND SLAM for the week. They also had some great tuna action and the odd wahoo.
Last year, John and Delora McEnaney had a week that will not be forgotten with 14 billfish released. This year they might not have gotten quite as much but John once again achieving his GRAND SLAM for the week. They released 2 Black Marlin, 2 Blue Marlin and 1 Sailfish on this trip. This in between the 21 Dorado that took up a lot of their time.
Gwen Kosi and her son Frank were back to celebrate Christmas with us. Santa filling Gwen’s stocking till it was bursting at the seams. Not only did she get her GRAND SLAM for the week, she also beat all the men with a monster Yellow fin tuna which weighed in at 124.7lbs.
Paul Gregory and his father Bob had such fun in June they brought their whole family here for Christmas. Adam could not have asked for a better present from his father. In the space of 2 days he caught his first Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Pacific Sailfish to get his GRAND SLAM for the week. Paul on the other hand needed only a Black Marlin to complete his billfish at Tropic Star Lodge. This he did on their first day of fishing, another first Black Marlin. Bob got to release his first Blue Marlin while Brandon Smitheal fell one short of a GRAND SLAM catching his first Pacific Sailfish and first Blue Marlin.
Terry and Barbara Fitzgerald could not contain themselves when on the first day they both caught their first Black Marlin. They then went for Blue Marlin the next day and lady luck was again on their side. Barbara and Terry once again both caught their first Blue Marlin. Michael Frandsen and their daughter joined the fishing on Wednesday and Michael caught his first Black Marlin. On Thursday only the men went fishing and Michael caught his first Pacific Sailfish while Terry completed his GRAND SLAM with a sailfish. Barbara completed the week with 500lb Blue Marlin that charged the side of the boat and sent everyone running for cover.
Ted Lund from “Fly Fishing in Salt Waters” , together with Juliana Kuhake, came for a bit of relaxed fishing fun over the holiday season. Juliana had plenty of the action, she caught her first Pacific Sailfish and first Black Marlin. Ted in the meantime had plenty of action on fly with Dorado’s. He also caught a huge rooster fish of 50lbs.
There was also plenty of action on the Costa Rica for the Guillermo San Clemente Sr. and Jr. Guillermo Jr caught his first Black Marlin the afternoon they arrived here and had only been out for about ½ hour. The next day he caught his first Pacific Sailfish. Over on the England was their friends Jose de Paredes Sr and Jr as well as Ricardo Paredes. Young Jose Jr caught his first Pacific Sailfish and got to watch them tussle with a 250-300lb Yellow fin tuna, the tuna eventually winning the battle.
Jim and Vicki Kerley had a exciting week fishing with Captain Walter on the Darien. Jim did a great job feeding everybody at the lodge with the numerous dorado that he caught. He also released a Blue Marlin and a few Sailfish.
We hope you all had a festive Christmas and wishing you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
