The bite goes on!!!! More GRAND SLAMS AND EVEN DOUBLE GRAND SLAMS
We started off the New Year with a bang for many of our angler’s.
Bob Wott and his son Robert had the experience of a life time. Bob caught his first Black Marlin and his first Blue Marlin on the same day. They added 4 Sailfish to that and it gave Bob his GRAND SLAM in one day. Robert was not far behind dad, he caught his first Black Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish. Just one more and he too would have been up there with the boys with bragging rights.
Dr. John Waldrop’s first trip to Tropic Star for 2008 was an amazing week of fishing. Unfortunately, his friend Carl Savory fell ill and left to go home, although he did get a Black Marlin before he left. So with the boat to himself, John was in for the time of his life. He caught 3 Black Marlin and 2 Blue Marlin, together with 8 Pacific Sailfish over the week. His biggest fish was a Black Marlin of about 450lb’s. This gave him a DOUBLE GRAND SLAM for the week.
Archie Nesbitt was here with his wife, Christine, and son Russell, for hunting of a different kind. Young Russell excelled and caught his first Pacific Sailfish. The rest of the week was all action for Archie with Russell and mom staying back at the lodge. With his captain, Gilberto, tracking down the marlin, it was open season for Archie. He also achieved a DOUBLE GRAND SLAM for the week. One of his Blue Marlin weighed about 650lbs and gave him a good workout. He ended with 2 Black Marlin, 3 Blue Marlin and 12 Sailfish.
Luena Barclay and Thomas Sander were first into the billfish on the Spain with Captain Maso. Luena caught her first Black Marlin while Thomas caught his first Pacific Sailfish. Thomas was again in the action the next day with his first Black Marlin. Scott Altman in the meantime caught a giant Rooster fish of about 60lb’s when they went inshore. He then also caught his first Pacific Sailfish to round off their week.
Ronnie Williams and his family were back to once again celebrate the New Year with us. For his son Chase, it could not have been a better start to the year. With dad standing back and letting Chase do most of the fishing. It did not take long and he too had achieved a GRAND SLAM. Ronnie did however get to catch one Black Marlin and mom, Kim, caught a Sailfish.
Rodney Krug was in the thick of the action. He started off his week with a Black and a Blue Marlin on the same day. He completed his GRAND SLAM the following day and added another Black Marlin of about 400lbs. But what made his week complete was the Yellow fin tuna he caught on the last day. It was a monster which weighed in at a hefty 161.4lb’s.
Damaris Brito had a epic battle with her first Black Marlin. She eventually was the victor after 11/2 hours with a marlin weighing 361lb’s. In the mean time her husband, Dr Juan Suarez worked on his GRAND SLAM, catching 2 Black Marlin, 1 Blue Marlin and 2 Pacific Sailfish on the same day to complete his GRAND SLAM.
Anthony Wilson brought his lovely new wife, Stephanie Frost, to catch her first billfish. This she did in no time at all, catching her first Pacific Sailfish. Anthony took the rod when the big boys bit. He caught his first Black Marlin and his first Blue Marlin.
Phil Miner once again visited, together with his sons, Nick and Brady and Dan and Danny Bellavigna. Both Dan and Danny being first time visitor’s. They came looking for their first billfish, and this they got. They each caught their first Pacific Sailfish and had plenty of Dorado action. Phil and his sons also enjoying the sailfish action.
Another first time visitor, Jeb Bledsoe got what he was looking for. He also caught his first Pacific Sailfish while fishing with Rod Fickle, who caught a Black Marlin while fishing with Candelo on the Australia.
Bill Gordy might not have seen as much of the billfish as he would have liked, but he did catch a huge Yellowfin tuna of about 100lbs and plenty of Dorado amongst the Sailfish he caught.
