HAPPY NEW YEAR!
13 anglers released their first ever Marlin this past week, not an uncommon occurrence here at Tropic Star. Another 16 anglers released their first Pacific Sailfish. When you add that to the great atmosphere here at the lodge along with Chef Rogelio’s famous dinners and deserts, who cares about the fishing? However, we know it is the fishing that you come for and Pinas does not disappoint.
The Action:
Phil Miner with his sons Brady and Nicholas fished the Miss Panama and had a wonderful 4 day fishing trip with 3 Black Marlin released and 3 Sailfish. These fish were “firsts” for both Brady and Nicholas. Great job!
Cindy Garrison and her film crew shot another “Get Wild” TV Show for ESPN. Cindy had a good week with 2 Black Marlin and 1 Blue Marlin and we are looking forward to sitting back and reliving the Tropic Star experience through her show.
Ken Dolan and Lee Allen released their first Black Marlin. Stan Kaczkowski got to release his first Black Marlin as well.
Regular guests David Jamar, Charles Willett and Richard Patton fished with Captain Chito, they had 5 Marlin shots but the sea Gods were not on their side, better luck next time guys.
Charlie, Christine and Russell Nesbit from Canada enjoyed a great week of fishing. Archie released his first Blue, first Black Marlin and his first Sailfish for a Grand Slam week! This is harder than taking a Marco Polo sheep with bow and arrow Archie, well done. Christine released her first Sailfish and Russell had fun with the Dorado’s and baitfish.
Dale Halton and Fred Wagner raised 2 Black Marlin but could not get a bite. They did get to release their first Sailfish though.
The Irwin Belk family, old time guests and great friends revisited the lodge where their parents came as kids and their kids (and grandkids) Patricia, David, and Marilyn each released their first Sailfish. Thanks for the biography “Just call me Ike” and when the fishing slows down (not so often in Pinas) I know just what book I will be reading! This is the third generation of Belk’s visiting us, a lovely and gracious family!
Michael Presley released his first Black Marlin.
Masashi and Sumie Habuka visited us all the way from Japan and celebrated their wedding with a weeks fishing. Masashi attempted to catch a Marlin on plugs, he had two shots at Black Marlin but unfortunately could not set the hook. A 29lb Amberjack and 38lb Roosterfish caught on plugs made him happy and he said he will return for his Marlin.
Tight lines,
Hennie Marais
