Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
Feb 1-6, 2004
The bite slowed a bit from the week before. We expected it to pick up again
in the second part of the month. We had a great catch ratio with 17 black
raised and 13 releases. We raised 5 blue released 4. Striped marlin started to appear and 4 were released. The sailfish bite is still consistant at 219 released.
The Action:
Top boat Miss England with 2 black, 1 blue and 1 striped marlin and 25
sailfish released.
Following hot on their tail was the miss Tropic star and Costa Rica each with
3 marlin releases for the week.
Joe Haley held his every other year Tournament of the Kings fishing on 5
boats. Their strategy is "all for the captains and the captains are all for
fishing". Prize money went to top captain and mate which created quite a bit of
competition between them.
First day out anglers Vincent and David Snell, Denis Hunter and Richard Dinen
along with Guy Harvey and Raymond Delisser. "Tip" released two blue marlin on
the Miss Panama and Florida. They raised two more blacks but could not get a
hook in them. These guys had a great time; took great pictures (thank you Richard) and
caught their first pacific sails and blue and black marlins.
Costa Rica released 3 marlins with anglers Rick Hyman, Patti Mc Collum and
Joseph Haley. Rick and John releasing their first marlins.
Julie Haley released her first blue marlin on the Miss Scandia, they also
hooked and caught a 100lb plus Yellow Fin tuna. Well done.
Dr. Stanley Order and his wife Mary with friends John and Mrs. Roth had a bit of
trouble finding the fish. Stanley said if they went north the fish was biting
south and visa versa, better luck next time (these guys caught stacks of marlin
the same week last year) and Dr. Stanley says heŽd rather be here and have a
slow week than be home in the snow.
ohn Peveto had a great day on Thursday and released two black marlins his
first. His wife Bonnie will now have to find a place for his replica Trophy.
Keith Edwards caught his first black and blue marlin, Bruce Brown nailed his first
striped marlin on the Tropic Star.
The Weather:
North wind and great fishing weather.
Tight Lines,
Hennie
