Fantastic tuna fishing! The best I have seen at Tropic Star Lodge. 10 yellowfin tuna over 150 pounds! Smaller tuna everywhere, one could catch as many as you had the energy for.
We also released 10 black marlin, 2 striped marlin and 175 sailfish - 105 on Friday alone! Inshore we caught pompano, tuna, wahoo, grouper, snapper, 55 lb roosterfish, Jack Crevelle, amberjack and shark. Amazing variety and nowhere else than Tropic Star lodge!
The Action:
Ed and Mac McCarthy fished on the Miss Scandia, they were quickly on the fish and released a black and striped marlin. Ed's friend Kimjoined him later in the week and they caught 2 yellowfin tuna over 200lbs just minutes apart, 223lb for Kim Evans and 209 for Ed - well done! We also had a chance to fish the river mouth and islands off the lodge on light tackle for small grouper and jacks...see you all next year.
Herb and Barbara Jensen, Patricia and John Wilson from Alaska fished the Miss Panama and they released 1 black marlin and 5 sailfish - first sailfish for Patricia and Barbara. Herb caught a 245lb yellowfin tuna on 30 pound line - the biggest for the week.
Drew Andrews, Ernie Gaddy and Drew´s father John Andrews fished the Miss Tropic Star, they released 3 black marlin and 5 sailfish. Ernie caught a 151lb yellowfin tuna! John Andrews boasted his first sailfish and black marlin release.
Jim Fero and Jim Danbury fished the Miss Canada and Jim Danbury released a nice black marlin and together they released 9 sailfish.
Jim and Pamela Ciesliga fished the Miss Darien they released 1 black marlin and 5 sailfish. Pamela also released a 135lb yellowfin tuna and her first black. These guys got a great helicopter flight back to the city - some guys have all the fun.
Wendy and Ian Openshaw with their friend Tony Thompson from England fished the Miss Island Star and they released 13 sailfish and jumped a marlin - next time guys. Ian caught a 220lb yellowfin tuna. Wendy got her emerald ring in her glass of champagne - who would have thought Ian to be such a romantic!
Chris Herbert and Reed Andrus fished the Miss England they released 28 sailfish.
John with sons Ryan and Nicholas Gaetz and friends Ed Blalock, Billy Schmidt and Timothy Smyrson fished the Miss Spain, Puerto Rica and Australia. They had no marlin shots but great sailfish and yellowfin fishing. Sunday was their highlight when the Miss Australia came in with 27 sailfish flags and the Miss Puerto Rico 19. Nicolas caught a 210lb yellowfin tuna, with Ryan landing a 155lb.
Weather:
Calm seas, cool sea breeze.
Gone fishing,
Hennie
