Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
Feb 24 - March 3
We had a good group of people this week all hungry for Marlin but the Marlin played tease tag all week until Friday when they went back on the bite. The best quote I heard this week was from Mr. Botek, “if wishes were Marlin I would have had a boat load of them this week!” The week ended with most boats releasing between 2 and 3 Marlin and a total of 22 Marlin for the week.
Todd Gilbeau from got off to a flying start catching his first ever Black Marlin on his first day of fishing. It was a whopper of about 700lbs. Anthony “Nonnie”, Todd’s father, was not to be disappointed and got to release a lovely Black Marlin of about 500lbs. Todd followed this with another Black Marlin estimated at 400lb’s. They crowned the week off with a Pacific Sailfish.
James Ryan Sears returned with his father, Jim Sears to catch his first Black Marlin and was rewarded with a lot more. He got to catch a giant Blue Marlin of about 600lbs and then followed it with a Black Marlin of 400lbs. Jim was just as ecstatic when he got to catch his first ever Striped Marlin, a fish of 170lbs.
The trio, Andy Yaffa, Edgar Benes and young Brett Benes were in for a very exciting week. Brett, 13 years old, started off the week with his first Pacific Sailfish and then went on to catch a beautiful Black Marlin of 600lbs, his first. Andy also got to catch his first Black Marlin, a huge fish of 490lbs. They had alot of fun catching a number of Yellowfin Tuna and shooting some excellent underwater photos. To top it all, they went out on a panga after their days fishing and caught some delectable snapper and grouper plus a Roosterfish.
Kurt Johnson and Linda Cocola came to catch a Black Marlin, but Kurt got to catch a little more. He caught his first Black Marlin on his first day out, a lovely fish of about 400lbs. He got his second Black Marlin later in the week. Between catching fish Kurt and Linda found the time to get engaged. Congratulations from Tropic Star Lodge we wish you many happy years and fishing trips together.
John Bazos and Janice Krix fished with Dagoberto aboard the Panama. This year John got to catch his First Black Marlin seeing as though last year he had let Janice get hers. A lovely fish of about 550lbs. Janice was not to be outdone and got a Black Marlin as well.
They also caught a number of Jacks and a Roosterfish.
Charles and Suanne McAliley were accompanied by the newly weds Flynn Morris and Julie Compton. Suanne was the lucky one aboard the Australia getting to her first Black Marlin of about 400lbs. She also got to catch a beautiful Snapper of about 45lbs. They caught another Black Marlin as well as 2 Roosterfish, 10 Jacks and a few Amberjacks.
George Henry III, joined by Brett Cleveland and Charles Pearson were in for some fun with the Yellowfin Tuna. Brett catching a bomber of 100lbs and his first Black Marlin estimated at 300lbs. George hooked a large Yellowfin on a spinning rod while trying to catch bait and got a 1.5 hour workout while trying to get the fish to the boat.
Laura Jensen fishing with her husband Hans released her first Black Marlin. Hans went home happy with a Black Marlin release. They had a tremendous time with Walter on the Darien and will be back next year.
Sandy Moreland was over the moon with her first Black Marlin, while her husband Dwayne released his biggest Black Marlin to date. A monster of about 450lbs. Wally Ruiz caught his first Blue Marlin.
For his second week here Miguel De Lasa was joined by Javier Chavez and Ernesto Ferraro. Javier got to catch a large Blue Marlin of 400lbs. They also caught a beautiful Rooosterfish of 55lbs.
