Wonderful fishing and some remarkable personal achievements gained by our clients this week.
It is hard to describe the passion and dedication that Yvonne Buckley shows. This week Yvonne caught and released her 50th marlin. All of these fish were taken standing up and without the aid of a harness. There are few anglers who could match such a challenge and win! Yvonne went on to catch a further 2 Black Marlin with the support of her husband Rick, who is her official photographer, technical trainer and equipment man. Congratulations Yvonne!
Judy and Andre Pachon from Canada visited Tropic Star for the first time and what a week it turned out to be. They fished with Maso. Both Judy and Andre bided their time until- Wham! Thursday produced 3 Marlin for the day! A first Black Marlin each with Andre having the pleasure of releasing a second. They actually hooked into a giant Blue Marlin as well but this fish raced off into the horizon and was not to be seen again. Friday produced another whammy day for them with another Black Marlin each. Judy was also delighted with her 60lb Dorado.
The trio Gerard Miller, Mark Stephen and Tony Visentin were in hyper form. Gerard Miller and Mark Stephen got to catch their first Black Marlin on the same day with Tony getting one as well and totaling 3 for the day. They further released 2 Black Marlin and Mark Stephen his first Pacific Sailfish.
Joe Blanda, Matt Lonuzzi, Ben Morino and Janusz Kubrak had an exciting week's fishing to see who could outdo the other as they split up on to the Scandia and Island Star.
At the end it looked all fair and square with Ben and Joe each getting their first Black Marlin and Janusz his first Pacific Sailfish. Matt topped them all though with a Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and a Sailfish. They ended the week with 4 Black Marlin, 1 Blue Marlin and 8 Sailfish. Well done!
It was a wonderful week’s fishing for Pat Bombino and Dennis O’Rourke aboard the Miss Panama. Having fished for many years, Pat finally caught his first Black Marlin. Partner Dennis had fun with a Blue Marlin of about 300lbs and a Black of 500lbs. Pat caught a lovely Dorado weighing 67lbs and also released a Blue Marlin.
Eric Nickerson and Mike Trusty achieved some personal milestones this week. Mike caught a 50lb Dorado and 100lb Yellowfin Tuna while Eric caught a Tuna of 200lb’s. They also released 2 Black Marlin of 500lb and 400lb. Mike spent a lot of time on the dock catching bait to use for Roosterfish only to bring it back as his partner preferred catching Marlin and Tuna.
Onboard the Australia there was much action for Mike Ajello and Louis Santomauro with Mike releasing a 550lb Black Marlin and Louis 1 not much smaller. They were also fortunate to catch the only Striped Marlin for the week.
Russ Kodner and Joe Jordan, avid fisherman from Florida were in their element here with all the action going on around them. They had such fun, with Joe catching his first Black Marlin and Pacific Sailfish and Russ with his Marlin release. If we did not put them on the plane they would have stayed to catch some more, they will be back!
We had the pleasure of hosting Rudy Nelson and Manuel Angulo from the Mexican Television station. Together with their cameraman they were able to get some excellent footage of Manuel catching his first Black Marlin.
Bob and Pamela Newcomb together with Boots and Beth Fawcett came out to try their luck catching Marlin on fly. Anybody who has ever fly fished will appreciate that this is no small task. Their ladies were most chuffed with their first Pacific Sailfish on a fly. Unfortunately the Marlin were not eating aggressively enough to follow that teaser and take the fly. Bob finally settled on a Black Marlin with conventional tackle and Boots kept at the fly to no avail. Better luck next time!
The Marlin just keep coming!
Tight Lines,
Hennie
