Unseasonable heavy rain and continuous south wind may account for the fact that we only released 7 marlin this last week. Four blacks, one blue and 2 striped. These conditions could also account for the high sailfish numbers. We released 205 sailfish!

The Action:
The Miss Puerto Rico and Darien were hot on the sailfish and released 27 and 28 sailfish respectively. Roy Van Lanen fished the Miss Puerto Rico and released a black marlin as well. Angelo and Louis Cayo with their friend Dale Rossman fished the Darien. These guys all had a super time.

Ralph and Catherine Martin fished the Miss Tropic Star and Catherine released her first blue marlin. They also released 20 sails.

Fishing the Miss Panama Philip Leonardi and Mark Kadluboski released 13 sailfish for the week. It was Mark's first Pacific sailfish ever. They had only two marlin strikes so no luck on the marlin - tough luck guys, perhaps next time.

Frank and Deborah Busher were fishing exclusively for marlin this week. Unfortunately, the marlin were a no show for them and they ended up releasing 5 sailfish. They've been coming to Tropic Star Lodge for over 30 years.

John Brogan, Todd Weatherly and John McKelvey fished the Miss Florida and released 20 sailfish.

The Miss Australia released 22 sailfish with Gordon Bahl and Doug Mack. We will see them back for their marlin next year.

Host Tom Ackerman and producer Jeff Murray of The New American Sportsman brought TV personality Jason Priestley and his fiancé Naomi Lowde to the lodge, they had a wonderful time releasing their first sailfish and big sharks. They also had a good time exploring the National Geographic beaches and jungle, great to have you guys.

William Klemkowski brought a fun loving group of guys. They fished the Costa Rica, Island Star, Spain, Canada and Scandia, the group released 3 marlin and 101 sailfish! For the majority of this group, this was their first time sail fishing. First for Tom Biggs, Anthony Thomas, Darin Lockwood, Steve Lukiewski and Paul Buchness. Robert Medd released his first black marlin as did Blair Thompson. Blair caught and released his marlin on his first ever offshore fishing day. We thank Don Higdon, the Frito Bandido for his talented singing. The words were great, the voice was pretty good too - well done.

Gone fishing,
Hennie
