Jan 22 - Jan 28 2006
It was a busy week here in the tropics. There were 140 Billfish released this week.
26 Blue Marlin, 14 Blacks and 100 Sails were set free to live to fight another day. The Dorado were huge this week. We saw one really nice Tuna. The Yellow fin was estimated to weigh 280 Pounds.
There were 22 firsts this week. 5 lucky anglers caught their first Black Marlin. 8 happy customers caught their first Blue Marlin. There was a first Striped Marlin release. 8 First Sails were released as well. I am ecstatic to report that there were 5 Grand Slams this week.
The fish are working schools of bait offshore. The wind has been mixing things up down here. Some days it blows, and other days it is smooth as glass. We had a pretty good rain the other night.
Miss England released 7 Marlin which was the most marlin for one boat this week.
Dr. Bruce Brown and Keith Edwards were the lucky anglers fishing with Captain Gustavo. These two guys had a Grand Slam for the week and the good doctor caught his first Black Marlin and his first Blue.
Miss Australia had a 3 Marlin day. The previous day she released an 800+Blue Marlin!
Martin and Elaine Hirsch were with Captain Candelo and Mate Arnufol. They fished hard and had a slow start, but they made up ground later in the week. In total they had 5 Blue Marlin, 1 Sail, 1 Tuna and 14 Dorado.
The guys who caught the first marlin of the week were John Mathieu, Mitch Marmande and Phillip Daigle fishing with Walter aboard the Miss Darien. John and Mitch both caught their First Pacific Blue Marlin. Mitch released his first Pacific Sail. These guys were a happy bunch all the way from their hometown of Houma, Louisiana. They had a blast with the 9-Sails, 3 Blue Marlin in total and a mess of Dorado. These three managed to hook a Blue the first ten minutes of fishing their very first day. What a way to start!
Carol Schorr fished with Dagoberto aboard Miss Panama. She is a very experienced angler and did her best with 3 Blue Marlin and 8 Sails. She managed to put 8 Dorado in the box as well. This woman is an inspiration. I really enjoyed her calm disposition and her intense admiration for the fishery we enjoy here at Tropic Star Lodge.
Dennis and Irene O’Rourke fished with Captain Alberto aboard Miss Tropic Star. Irene released her first Pacific Sail. They released 5 Marlin, 9 Sails and 13 Dorado. These two had a great time. The smiles were constant with these cool customers.
Eric Nickerson and Michael Trustycaught a great time aboard the Miss Costa Rica with Captain Libardo. Michael caught his first Blue Marlin. In total these guys were busy fighting 2 Blue Marlin, 10 Pacific Sails, 2 Tuna, 7 Dorado, 3 Amberjack and 3 Cubera Snapper.
Bill and Drynda Crookshank had a really nice trip with Captain Gavilan aboard Miss Island Star. They released a nice Blue Marlin and 17 Sails. They fished hard and it really paid off when they boated a 280 Pound Yellow fin Tuna. Sashimi for days!
Dennis and Tina Mould joinedMargaret Walters and Steven Myers aboard the Miss Scandia. Captain Chito led this crazy crew to a Grand Slam for the boat and several firsts. Steven caught his first Black Marlin and Pacific Sail. Dennis caught his first Pacific Blue Marlin. The ladies stayed ashore for the village tour and spent a little R and R at White Beach. The tally for the crew was 3 Marlin, 11 Sails and 22 Dorado.
Dennis said that he was impressed when the mate dove in the water to retrieve a personal lure that was sinking. He also said that “Others promise, Tropic Star delivers.”
Captain Jose ran Miss Canada. John and Helen Gehan were the anglers. These two have been coming to Tropic Star longer for over 26 years. These two have some great stories. They tagged 2 Black Marlin and released 8 Sails. They also brought 4 Dorado to the kitchen.
Ralph, Sean, Melita and Michael Feinstein came to Tropic Star Lodge with Sidney and Beulah Sikaffy. These three couples fished two anglers per boat.
Miss Spain had Melita and Michael. They released 3 Black Marlin, 3 Dorado and 10 Sails. Melita releaed her first Pacific Sail.
Miss South Africa was fished hard by Sean and Ralph. Ralph caught his first Roosterfish and Sean released his first Black Marlin. They released 6 Marlin, 8 Sails, 1 Tuna, 7 Dorado and 2 Amberjack. The 6 Marlin were made up of 1 Striped, 1 Black and 4 Blues.
Beulah and Sidney Sikaffy fished with Captain Armando aboard Miss Puerto Rico. Beulah Sikaffy released her first Black Marlin. Sidney released his first Blue Marlin and his first Striped Marlin.
Private Yacht South Jersey Champion had a fun crew last week. They enjoyed a week of great fishing. Jeff Raab and Mike DiPalantino caught their first Pacific Blue Marlin.
