July 15 - 22
This week we saw 6 boats fishing or less. The reef produced a few nice marlin, so did a trash line offshore. The trash line was loaded with small tuna and bonito. It is really impressive to see that much bait in one area.
Most of the marlin were caught on live baits, or on the switch. Everybody likes to see the bait and switch work. The reef also produced a 67lb Cubera Snapper for 15-year-old Josh Davis. This fish was impressive!
The Roosterfish are still here, and the Wahoo showed up the other day. Miss England caught 4 Wahoo with no problem at all.
The Sails are here, but they are a little shy. Boats are seeing roughly half a dozen per day, but releasing 3 or 4, some days less, other days there are more. But overall, the trash line has been productive. The Dorado were working the line. Tripletail were hanging out under logs and debris. The water is extremely clear out there.
Jim Boulton caught his first Black Marlin, first Blue Marlin and his first Sailfish. That makes a Grand Slam for the week. His wife Evangeline released her first Black Marlin and her first Sailfish. Evangeline also caught her first Wahoo and Amberjack. They caught all of these fish on board Miss Scandia with Captain Chito. Evangeline caught her first Roosterfish and her first Cubera Snapper.
Alan Kapson caught his first Pacific Sailfish and his first Pacific Blue Marlin.
Greg Kapoosuzian caught his first Pacific Sailfish.
Michael Courtemanche caught his first Pacific Blue Marlin, his first Pacific Sailfish and caught his first Yellowfin Tuna.
Thomas Hudson released his first Pacific Sailfish, and he caught his first Yellowfin Tuna.
Robert Davis and his son Josh came down from Tennessee to hit the bottomfish scene. They started off hot with that 67lb Cubera mentioned earlier. Then they went offshore for a couple days to catch a few nice Sailfish, some nice Dorado and hunt for Marlin. The Pcaific Sails they released were their firsts. They came back in close to the rocks and caught a few nice Cubera on topwater plugs and they double teamed a Roosterfish. These guys brought back some nice Wahoo steaks and are staying a few more days. These two really are having a blast. It is so great to get nice people down here that now how to have a good time. Look to see how they finish their trip in next weeks report.
Thanks to Bill Shedd for the Aftco Shorts and Costa Del Mar for the new sunglasses, our crew is looking sharper than ever.
Tightlines,
