Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
July 1 - July 7
It is that time of year when mom and dad bring their siblings to enjoy the amazing fishing here at Tropic Star Lodge as part of our Kid’s Club.
One of those families to do it as a whole group is the Anderson family who bring all 3 generations so that even Grandpa can enjoy catching fish with his grandson.
Even some of the older generation got to catch their first billfish.
Dianne Parker was one of those first into the action on the first day aboard the Costa Rica catching her first Pacific Sailfish. Meanwhile young Garret Anderson was catching his first Pacific Sailfish on the Panama. The husband and wife team of Brent and Arine St. James had a dream start to their stay with Brent catching his first Black Marlin and Arine her first Pacific Sailfish. The next day was 8 year old Hunter Anderson’s turn to catch his first Pacific Sailfish and then to add one more and a large Yellow fin Tuna. In the meantime Grant Sinnot also got 2 saifish and a large snapper.
Tuesday was a absolute blast for Aaron, Diane, Clay and Connor when they found a pod of sails and had to do the Tropic Star Tango when they got a double header with some very active sails. They ended the day with 9 Pacific Sailfish. Young Hunter was again in the action with a sail and 2 dorado. There was just as much excitement over on the Panama with Garret catching 2 sails, Blake 4 and mom Kym 1. Their last day was just as much fun with Aaron and Connor both catching a Rooster fish while Hunter caught a 40lb Yellow fin and Tony a 60lb Rooster. There were a lot of Tuna for Garret, Grant, Kym and Kemp on the Panama. They caught 8 50-60lb Tuna and Grant and Garret got 2 sailfish each. It was a week of fun and enjoyment for the whole family.
Rick and Kathi Klimes were joined by their friends Mike & Linda Thornton and Jerry and Karon Anson. All 6 of them being avid freshwater anglers, this was going to be a week to remember. Rick and Kathi fished on the Australia with Candelo while Mike, Linda, Jerry and Karon fished on the Canado with Jose. Rick and Kathi were first in with their first Pacific Sailfish only to be followed closely by Mike and Jerry. Next day was the ladies turn with Linda and Karon catching their first Pacific Sailfish and Mike releasing his first Black Marlin, a giant of 500lbs. Linda and Karon followed this up with a 30lb Roosterfish each. Rick and Kathi were in the meantime having fun with Dorado catching 6 on Tuesday. Wednesday was outstanding for the Canada with 9 sails being caught eventually bringing their total to 20 for the week.
Peter Spizzirri came in search of the billfish that had so far eluded him. This time his fortunes were to be realized as he released his first Pacific Sailfish on his first day. What would turn out to be just as momentous for Peter was when he caught a absolute giant of a Wahoo weighing in at about 60lbs.
Bill and Gene brought their grandsons, Sean and Stefen Mc Kinney, to catch their first billfish. Gene and Bill are both very active and experienced angler’s. The boys were not to be disappointed with Stefen catching his first Striped Marlin and Sean his first Pacific Sailfish.
Michael Spreckelmerer, Robert Pollack, Jim Hanson and David Mc Neill joined us for three days of great action. On the first two days they could not go wrong with the sails and amassed a total of 14 for the 2 days. On day 3 it was a change of strategy. Fishing inshore they could not go wrong either, catching 6 Roosterfish, 1 Amberjack and 1 Snapper. 3 days well worth it.
John Dolan and Robert Healy came together with their sons John Jr and Todd. The competition between the father’s and sons was evident from the start. Unfortunately for the father’s they were blown out of the water when Todd caught his first Black Marlin of 300lbs. Together they caught an amazing 26 sails in the half week stay with us.
Arthur Holbrook just could not go wrong from the outset. In a short afternoon’s fishing his lovely wife Judy caught her first Yellowfin Tuna. Then Arthur went on the rampage and caught 15 Pacific Sailfish fishing on his own for next 3 days. A outstanding catch for 1 angler.
Catch for the Week:
Black Marlin 2
Striped Marlin 1
Pacific Sailfish 157
Yellowfin Tuna 52
Dorado 28
Amberjack 4
Rooster fish 23
Snapper 16
Wahoo 1
