6 Black Marlin in a week on one boat, Monster Roosters for many!

Having fished here previously, Sam Pancotto at the age of 80 showed everyone how to do it catching a Black Marlin a Pacific Sailfish and a 60lb Dorado all in 1 day. Sam was accompanied by his son and David Masak. Sam’s wife, Rosemary joined them to cheer them on daily. David caught his first Black Marlin- a large fish of 473lbs. It did not end there though, Sam’s son got his Black Marlin next and then on their last day’s fishing they did everything right and released an amazing 3 Black Marlin. They also caught a lovely grouper of 50lbs.

Dr. Carroll Hutchens brought his son Carrol Hutchens II and grandson Cameron for a week of fun and excitement. All their dreams were realized when young Cameron caught a first Blue Marlin of 350lbs and a Pacific Sailfish on a bass rod while dad and grand dad had a ball catching their first Pacific Sailfish on fly rods. They had fun with the Dorado as well, catching 24 in 3 days.

Although they didn’t fish an entire week, Phillip Clark and his son Kyle, Sam West and Bob Laney could not have had a better time. Kyle released his first Black Marlin and then his first so released his first Pacific Sailfish while Phillip joined in on the action. There was also plenty of action in shore as they caught Rooster fish of up to 65lbs.

Melissa and Ben Finke having fished inland water’s wanted to experience the open ocean fishing. A more exciting 3 days they could not have hoped for. They started out with 10 Yellowfin tuna around 70lbs each and 3 Dorado on day 1. Next day was Melissa’s turn to catch her first Blue Marlin. On their last day they fished inshore and were rewarded with Amberjack and awesome Roosterfish of 50lbs.

Casey McCartin once again teamed up with Captain Walter on the Darien and what a team they made. Casey released his first Black Marlin and then another 1 later in the week. Casey likes inshore fishing and had an amazing week catching 18 Roosterfish, some monsters of up to 60lbs. He also caught a monster Cubera Snapper of 42lbs and 10 Wahoo.

John and Jaque Spitler joined “Skip” Tubbs and Judith King for some Sailfish action. John, Jaque and Judith all caught their first Pacific Sailfish and Judith her first Yellowfin Tuna. Skip having caught Sailfish before, let the other’s have the fun with them and caught himself a huge Dorado of 40lbs.

Kevin Walsh and Andrew Webster from England took their annual fish vacation here with us at Tropic Star lodge and were not disappointed. While they both caught their first Pacific Sailfish, Kevin’s a monster of 110lbs they had a grand time fishing inshore for Roosterfish. So much so that Kevin broke his fly rod while tangling with a monster Rooster of about 70lbs.

Don Behringer brought his lovely wife Carol to catch her first Pacific Sailfish. This she did on their first day plus 5 more. They also investigated the inshore fish and Don caught himself a monster Roosterfish of 60lbs to go with the his Sailfish of about 150lbs.

Arman and Michael Farmanian came on a quest to catch giant Roosterfish. All their hopes were realized with monsters of up to 70lbs and not just one of them. In the 3 days they were here they caught a total of 16 Rooster’s with a lot of them being 40lbs and bigger. They also found time to catch 4 Sails and a couple of Tuna and Dorado.

Mark Overstreet brought his family to enjoy the fun he has had on previous visits. Heather Overstreet, Jennifer Cissell, Sherry Carithers, Suzanne Erickson and Tony Erickson all got to catch their first Pacific Sailfish. To finish the week off in style Mark caught himself a Black Marlin and they released 10 Sailfish and 16 Dorado.
