Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
July 30 - August 5
This week started off with a full house and as the week passed, there were only 4 boats fishing the last half of the week. The week started with a strong tuna bite. These fish were huge. One was over 300 pounds when caught!
The rains have subsided and the water is beautiful. The bait has been stacked up around the islands lately.
The Wahoo and the Roosterfish are protecting the rocks from overpopulation of baitfish.
There was a trash line offshore that has moved elsewhere. When the line was here, there were plenty of Dorado and Sails to play with. Even after the line went elsewhere, the Sails mixed it up to keep things interesting.
The most impressive thing this week was by far the Tuna bite of the 30th. The reports were strong and the scale got a work out. These fish were massive. We had enough Tuna to feed an army.
Sam Trivett was the happiest man on the dock. His Tuna was the 295lb beast. Second place for happiest man on the dock that day was Aaron Butler. His fish was nipping at the heals of the other. It weighed in at 285lbs. That is a lot of Yellowfin Tuna!
Sam also caught a really nice 50lb Roosterfish as well. His dreams came true. Those 2 fish were exactly what he was looking for.
The Hattner family came down to catch some fish. This family fished hard. They had a blast with Candelo on board Miss Australia. Each caught their first Sailfish and their first Tuna. Johnny had one to the boat that was 180lbs. These 4 also caught their first Dorado. Johnny was the man of the hour with the largest. Hats off to him for his 42lb Dorado.
Gene McIntosh released his first Pacific Blue Marlin. They estimated the fish weighted in at 450lbs. He had a blast fishing with his wife Roberta. These 2 are always smiling. They said they had a close encounter with a porpoise.
Scott Kolpin caught his first Roosterfish.
Thomas Whittelsey caught his first Rooster as well. Thomas said his was around 50lbs.
Larry Butler caught his first Dorado and released his first Pacific Sailfish.
David Trench caught his first Yellow fin Tuna she weighed roughly 60lbs.
Kris Suplee, Remo Dischino, Alex Trench, David Vetter and Aldo Lombardo each caught their First Pacific Sailfish.
Remo caught a 70lb Wahoo, which is very impressive for these waters. He did this with a circle hook and no leader.
Alex Trench caught his first Dorado, it weighed 45lbs. Alex had a heartbreaker of a Tuna as well. His Tuna was a long fight and was lost at the leader.
David Vetter caught a nice 110lb Yellowfin Tuna to cap things off.
