July 31 - Aug 14, 2004
The Action:
13 year old Jeffrey Gerum caught his first pacific sail and then one on the fly rod and broke the rod. He also caught his first black marlin! His best buddy 14 year old Chris Sherman also caught his first sail on an eight weight fly as well as a huge black marlin estimated at well over 600 pounds! He fought it for over four hours. These two boys were on their own on the Miss Island Star while Mom and Dad were touring the tropical jungle and rivers of the Darien.
James Curtis did all his fishing on the fly rod landing his fair share of sails and almost hooking a black on the fly. His girlfriend Michele Watters also caught several sails. James hooked up a nice 32 lb rooster fish while fishing inshore. To round out the week our dockmaster Brandon Wilder managed to catch a 350 pound black marlin during a crew training trip.
Jack Wagner and Bob Hummer were here to do some fishing and alot of reminiscing about the old canal zone days. Jack caught a striped marlin and also a nice 310 lb blue marlin. They also had a few good days of wahoo, dolphin and tuna fishing. They caught a grand total of 19 wahoo!
Fishing on the Miss Australia was the Stangl and Goldman families from Utah and Idaho. They were flyfishing for sails and had a great time catching them.
Peter Marais, brother of general manager Hennie had a great time visiting and catching sailfish every day.
Frenchman Alain Duquesnoy caught an estimated 500 lb plus black marlin.
The Joubert's from South Africa were here fishing for marlin and released over 31 sailfish!
Tight Lines,
Hennie
