Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
June 19 - 24
13 black marlin, 3 blue marlin and 1 striped marlin as well as 154 sailfish released this last week. The rocks are still very good and 50lb+ roosterfish and snappers were caught. Good yellowfin and dorado fishing as well.
We would like to welcome Chris Dinwiddie our new dockmaster, also Tom and Roberta Breuer -our new resident managers.
The Action:
Carl Atkinson and his family joined us. Carl and his daughter, Caroline, each caught their first black marlin. Sara and Carter each released a sailfish, they had hard choices to make everyday between playing with Gabriella or going fishing with Dad. Thanks for being such good friends, Gabi will miss you all.
The Davis family fished hard for marlin this week it paid off on Thursday with a striped marlin and Friday with a black marlin a first for Bob Davis. Bob also caught a grand slam for the week: black, striped Marlin and sailfish! Well done!
The Hardin family joined us as well, Ben and Mary Ann brought their sons this year. Ben Jr. released his first blue marlin. Their sons Ben III, and Bryce caught their first sailfish- well done guys.
Chris Gleason, Joel Lebovitz and Michael Yurkowsky fished the Miss Canada, releasing 7 sailfish in day 1, they spent the rest of their 4 days targeting marlin. They ended their 4 days of fishing with two black marlin released.
The Mannings, Joe Sr. and Joe Jr. fished the Miss Spain for 3 days staying inshore, catching some nice 50lb+ wahoo, tuna, roosterfish, snapper and amberjack - 35 fish total!
Don Lyle returned with his daughter Laura, son-in-law Keith Hood plus their grandson Alex. They fished for 4 days on the Australia and Darien. Alex was the luckiest angler of the week and released 3 black marlin and sailfish - his first billfish ever! Imagine a 12 year old releasing 3 Blacks in four days of fishing. I hope he realizes that a lot of “Old Time Anglers” would give their eye teeth for 3 blacks! Keith released his first black marlin and Laura her first sailfish - well done to all!
Ken Baldwin and Wilson Cox fished the Miss England, fishing was a little slow for them this time around and they released only 4 sails and just missed the marlin bite...
The Kittredge family who has owned this resort for the last 30 years had a family reunion and most of the family with some friends enjoyed their wonderful lodge, some even fished and caught their first sailfish or marlin.
Chris snagged Polly on the dock and proposed to her, happily the catch was landed and we wish them only the best for their future together. Certainly, the best catch of the Week!
The Surguines fished the Miss Panama and released 20 sailfish and 1 black marlin. Dad Skeeter was the lucky marlin angler and it was his first! Skeeter, Patti, Katie, Ashley and Nole all released their first sailfish!
Marc and Rebecca Drayton each released their first sailfish. Polly her first marlin and Cain his first Sailfish. Congrats to Marc for releasing his first ever blue marlin. He was so excited that he had to consult Dr. Phil on how to handle the emotions.
Dr. Guy Harvey and his son Alex dropped in. The Harveys were accompanied by their young friend Keenan. They had a blast filming boat side sails and a 600lb blue marlin that Alex tamed. Keenan caught his first sailfish and did a great job catching the blue marlin on film. As always, it is a pleasure to have gracious guests that are willing to share their knowledge and help support the fishery that we all love.
Tight lines,
Hennie
