June 23 - June 30
Another week of GRAND SLAM’S, GIANT ROOSTER’S and of course Uncle Vic’s International Invitational.
Ken Vogel and his son Kenneth arrived on Tuesday for 3 days of fishing hoping to catch some Sails, they figured a marlin would be a bonus. Well they were in for the time of their lives. They left the dock on Wednesday morning excited about their prospects and returned absolutely ecstatic, Ken having caught his first Black Marlin of about 300lbs,his first Pacific Sailfish and Kenneth his first Blue Marlin of 332 pounds as well as his first Pacific Sailfish giving them a GRAND SLAM for the day. Ken followed this up the next day with a monster Black Marlin of 600lbs.
John and Pat Foster came in search of a large Roosterfish for Pat. Not only did Pat get a monster of about 70lbs but added a 40lb Wahoo, a Snapper of 40lbs and Dorado of about 50lbs. John was not going to be outdone and amazingly while fishing for bait hooked into a 300lb Black Marlin on a spinning rod while fishing for bait. After a long 1.5 hour battle he was rewarded with his first Black Marlin. He also released his first Pacific Sailfish.
Joe and Christine Draper brought their children Stephanie and Chris for 3 days of fishing fun. Young Stephanie caught her first Black Marlin with a little help from dad as the fish ate both their baits and they ended up fighting a lovely 400lb Black Marlin together. Monday was a delightful day for them as they caught 7 Sailfish and 2 large Snapper of about 45lbs. Stephanie was awarded co-winner of the Uncle Vic Invitational for her Marlin.
Carl Lindell retuned once again to fish with his son, Russell and a few of his friends. Chris Taylor released his first Blue Marlin and Pacific Sailfish while Carl caught his First Black Marlin. Chris had a huge tussle with a Roosterfish on fly rod and landed a monster of 61lbs.
Margot Vincent was once again chasing more world records. This time she came within 6lbs of the Sailfish record on fly line. Margot also caught a lovely Dorado of about 30lbs on fly which gave her a nice fight as well as a 400lb Black Marlin on conventional tackle.
Kohler and James Nordlund fished with Maso on the Spain for the week and what a exciting time they had. How many times do you get a Sail fish and a 500lb Blue Marlin on at the same time and get both fish to the boat? Together with some good boat maneuvering and skilled angling they accomplished this. There were a number of other sailfish added to their tally for the week.
Uncle Vic and his fellow 14 angler’s had a blast with many of them catching their first bill fish. They changed boats on a daily basis which brought more luck to some than others. Tom Patillo will never forget his week as he got his first Black Marlin while fishing with Walter on the Darien. He added a Pacific Sail fish and a Striped Marlin to his tally and got a personal GRAND SLAM for the week. Greg Payne caught his first Striped Marlin and Pacific Sailfish on fly. Bob LeBlanc came to experience what it is like to catch a sail on fly. Not only did he get his first Pacific Sailfish but added another 2 more to his list for the week. Dr Matt Holcomb primarily targeted marlin and he was to be rewarded for his efforts with his first Blue Marlin of about 300lbs. Matt did take some time to hunt for and catch a monster of a Roosterfish weighing about 60lbs. Don Moore joined the ranks of the first Sailfish releases while Walter Kaprielian released his first Striped Marlin.
Some of the angler’s took some days off during the week to relax and do some kayaking seeing as though this is a fun tournament.
Uncle Vic was once again our champion angler, this time sharing first place with young Stephanie Draper. Well done Uncle Vic.

Pacific Sailfish 146
