June 26 - July 2, 2004
The Miss Canada and Island Star fished with grandfathers, their sons and their grand children - John and John McCleary Jr., Terral and his son Kade Huntsman, Chandler, McKade, Mason and Jordan. They had excellent fishing with captains Jose and Gavilan. Captain Jose on the Miss Canada released 1 black marlin, 2 blue marlins, 1 striped marlin and 6 sails - a grand slam week!
John and Jordan each caught their first blue marlin, they also lost a black on the same day. The next day they improved and released a grand slam with a black marlin, striped marlin and two sails.
The Toledo family with George and Carolyn and their children, Audrey, Jordan and Lauren fished the Miss England with Captain Gustavo. Audrey, Jordan and Lauren all released their first sailfish. Jordan also released a 200 lb plus striped marlin, George released his first blue marlin! A good weeks fishing for a very nice family.
George Isaacs and his grandson Nicolas fished the Miss France. George released his first black marlin and Nicolas his first sailfish.
The Tropic Star fishing with Eric Prince, released 17 sails and a striped marlin. Eric is doing research in the migration of billfishes and tagged a few sails with a satellite tag, this work is so important to our sport - thanks Eric.
Guy Harvey and his daughter Jessica visited. Guy is a frequent guest and friend of the lodge's. He fished and dived the drift lines - they had the most amazing dive, seeing sails free swimming and watching a sail taking a bait. Tunas and bait fish were everywhere, its not often that one sees Guy so excited considering all the awesome diving he does. Guy and Jessica released 12 sails and two striped marlin, they also tagged marlin with sat tags.
Bill Klaser and his twin sons Kevin and Kurt Klaser fished the Miss Australia and released 18 sails, a black marlin and striped marlin - well done guys.
Miss Puerto Rico with Paul Lucente, Andrew and Yolanta Samuels released 16 sails over 3 days.
Bob and his son Shaun fished the Scandia and hooked into a striped marlin. While fighting the fish a black marlin swam past the boat, thanks to some quick action from the mate and he had him hooked on to a 300 lb black marlin and a two hour fight persued.
By the end of this week we made many new friends and clients. We made serious accomplishments in the name of science. We caught sailfish and three species of marlin - it just cannot get any better. Only at Tropic Star lodge...
Tight Lines,
Hennie
