June 26 - July 1
This past week we had 4 anglers releasing grand slams! 19 anglers catching their first ever marlin and 12 anglers releasing their first sails on conventional or fly! We released 17 black marlin, 8 blue marlin and 87 sailfish! Most boats fished a total of 4 days only and achieved these amazing catches.
The Action:
The Miss Panama with anglers Daniel, Jamie, Valerie and Anne Gilliam released 11 sailfish. Valerie and Annie received their first sailfish release certificates.
Miss Tropic Star with Captain Alberto and anglers Delbert Bain with his grandson Garin Clyma had an exciting week. They released 3 blue marlin and 1 black marlin as well as 20 sailfish. It was Del and Garins first ever blue and black marlin, it was also Garin´s first sailfish release. A grand slam week!
Kent and his dad Mal Malinowski fished the Miss Darien with Captain Walter, they released 2 black marlin and 1 blue marlin as well as 3 sailfish, Mal had a grand slam week. Kent also released his first black marlin.
Chris Barbara and Gary Solender had a wonderful week with rave reports. They fished the Miss Alaska and released a black marlin and 4 sailfish. This was Gary´s first trip to the lodge, and he was thrilled with his first black marlin release. Despite the billfish, his highlight was his roosterfish!
The Troyer family with David, Anthony, Vern, Aaron and Andy Troyer fished the Miss Australia. They released 2 blue marlin, 1 black marlin, plus 11 sailfish. Tony and Aaron caught their first sailfish and David his first marlin.
The Miss Canada with Dr. Frank Casarella and his son Corey released a blue marlin, black marlin and 9 sailfish. Corey released his first sailfish and both Corey and his dad Frank, released their first black marlin. I think they exceeded all their wildest fishing expectations during their few days at Tropic Star Lodge.
Chester and Patti Kroeger made a short stop at Tropic Star lodge. They fished the Miss Costa Rica and released 1 black marlin and 6 sailfish. It was Patti´s first black marlin.
Scott Susens and Greg Schipper fished the Miss England they ended up with 2 black marlin, 1 blue marlin and 12 sailfish released. Greg caught a grand slam for the week, Scott his first sail on fly as well as his first black marlin.
Fishing the Miss Spain, James, Spence and David Spencer with Thomas McKenzie released 1 blue, 1 black marlin and 2 sailfish. Spencer caught his first blue marlin, James his first black marlin.
Bill Finnegan, John Dolan Sr. Bill Whalen, Ronald Fillippini, Brain Finnegan, John Dolan Jr. Andrew Finnegan, Robert Costa, Chris and Al Larson fished the Miss Puerto Rico, Island Star and Scandia. They held their own mini tournament. The sons and young men against the older, retired dads. It was a close match with the oldies leading on day 1, the young guys on day 2. The retired gentlemen taking the third and last day and with that winning the tournament! Well done Team AARP!
With all the marlin released and grand slams I´d say that our “Green Season” is fast becoming our “In Season”.
Tight lines,
Hennie
