GRAND SLAM!! GRAND SLAM!! SUPER GRAND SLAM!!!! What a week of excitement for all our anglers. Nelson and Vivian Perez once again brought with them their friends for their annual Tampa Billfish Invitational Tournament to share in all the action.
Stanley and Julia Williams experienced the ultimate in fishing action on Tuesday 29 May 2007 when Julia released her first Blue Marlin and then Stanley striking gold catching his first Black Marlin followed by another, then a Striped Marlin and a Pacific Sailfish to complete the amazing feat of a GRAND SLAM. This together with Julia’s Blue Marlin gave them a SUPER GRAND SLAM for the boat. Not content with a lifetime achievement, Stanley carried on his form and ended the week taking top honors in the Men’s Division and Julia taking the ladies’.
Ed Simpson was having the time of his life being that this was his first time out for billfish. He caught his first Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Pacific Sailfish on separate days to complete a GRAND SLAM for the week. Ed’s amigos- Gary Frashier, Tom Sims, Bob Van Nostrand and Jim Stucchio were in on the action as well. Tom released his first Striped Marlin and Pacific Sailfish. Bob Van Nostrand his first Black Marlin (a beauty of 450lb’s) and first Pacific Sailfish. Jim released his first Pacific Sailfish.
In the meantime Charles and Angie Vilardebo were chasing Stanley and Julia, which came down to the wire. Charles took second in the Men’s and Angie second in the Ladie's Division. Angie released her first Pacific Sailfish while Charles got a double with his first Blue Marlin and Pacific Sailfish.
Nelson, who has won the tournament a few times, came in a close third place catching the most Sailfish together with Carl Carlson fishing on the Australia. Though he might not have won, Nelson was just as happy as the winners after walking away with the trophy for the Largest Roosterfish- a big daddy of 71lbs.
Cory and CJ Steadman have been coming here for a number of years and this time brought their friends Dr. John and Daniel Lippelman to get in on some of the amazing billfish action. Young Daniel out fished dad John and released his first Blue Marlin and Pacific Sailfish. John caught his first Pacific Sailfish. Daniel also claimed first prize for the largest Tuna of the tournament. Cory landed a monster Dorado of 60lbs to claim the Dorado Trophy.
Paul McDuffee has fished here on a number of occasions and this year was joined by Carl Lorton. Paul got to release his first Black Marlin. They caught a large 40lb Snapper as well.
We were once again privileged to have Yvonne and Rick Buckley joining us. While primarily targeting Marlin Yvonne still got in on some of the Sailfish action and was rewarded with a Black Marlin and a few more that came up into the spread but were not as hungry. Yvonne walked away with a Super Grand Slam on Bait Certificate and a smile. We look forward to your next visit.
Tom Nolan brought his brother Charles here as a birthday gift to experience the fun and excitement Tom has enjoyed in the past. Charles released his first Pacific Sailfish on his first days fishing. He then went on to add another few more bringing their total to 11 in 3 days of fishing. Another one of Charles’ gifts was a giant Roosterfish of about 55lbs. A birthday gift Charles will remember for a long time.
Jim West, Jimmy Dowan, Laurence Kruger and Doug Kruger flew in for 2 quick days of fishing. They had an amazing catch of 10 Sailfish and 4 Roosterfish and a good time!
Catch for the Week:
Black Marlin 6
Blue Marlin 5
