March 27 - April 3, 2004
SOME MARLIN STATISTICS for you:
Tropic Star Lodge released a total 382 marlin since January 1 this year!
January we released 82 black marlin, 50 blue marlin, 2 striped marlin.
February we released 62 black, 36 blue, 22 striped.
March we released 85 black, 37 blue, 6 striped.
Total - 229 blacks, 123 blue, 30 striped!
We fished a total of 864 boat days (multiplying number of boats by days
fished) This means that every 2 6-boat days we release a marlin. Compared to
statistics elsewhere in the world this is way above average!
Statistically we call the end of March the end of our marlin season and the
start of our sailfish season - but we're still releasing marlin and who knows
when it all ends. I think it's a matter of us shifting focus to the sailfish
season and no boats out there fishing for marlin.
The week's action, the slowest marlin week since October 2003, we released
just 3 marlin.
Sails started to show in small pods and we released 105.
First Black Marlin:
Kenneth Bouquillon, Joe Hinckley
First Sailfish:
John Albergina, Robert Palmisano, Anthony Dideo, Tony Cadman, Dennis Wathen,
James Brooks, Vicent Tumminello, Joe Hinckley, Lynn Shoop and James Branson
and Daniel MacDonald.
200 lb Tuna:
James Brooks
171 lb Tuna: Robert Palmisano
Looks like the dry season is coming to an end and the rain will be a great
relief for us and bring good sailfishing.
Tight Lines,
Hennie
