March 17 - March 24
Our clients released fewer Marlin this week as the fish came up, winked at them and just stayed around to tease. Tuna fishing was awesome though and inshore produced good sizes and numbers.
Jim and Gail Doerr thought that their last trip to Tropic Star Lodge was the best they could have, but they were in for a surprise. Jim started the week off with Sailfish on day 1 and 2. Then a lovely Black Marlin of 400lbs came along on day 3. The next day Jim went out on his own and caught 2 more Black Marlin, one of 450lbs. Gail got to reel Jim in a bit on Thursday when she caught a Pacific Sailfish, a 40lb Roosterfish and a 40lb Dorado!
Jeff Dyckman, Gregg Law and John Malbon all got to realize their dream of catching a Black Marlin. Jeff caught a 350lb beauty for his first Black Marlin. Gregg’s was a lovely fish of about 400lbs. John waited for his fish and was rewarded with a awesome fish of 450lbs. Jeff added his first Pacific Sailfish to his tally for the week.
While they might have had a terrible trip getting here from England, David and Kerry Snell and Kevin Lawrence had a blast catching fish once they were here. Kevin catching his first Pacific Sailfish, a beauty of 80lbs. David also caught a Sailfish. Both David and Kevin getting some Roosterfish action with their biggest fish of about 50lbs each. They had fun with a number of Dorado and Tuna in between.
The father and son team of Wayne and Matt Kelley came to catch a Marlin each and so they did. Matt getting his first Black Marlin, a lovely fish of 300lbs which nearly ended up in the boat as it came bounding across the water. Dad, Wayne, caught a beautiful Striped Marlin of 200lbs. There was also some Roosterfish action for them with Wayne catching a monster of 50lbs.
We were joined by Tom and John Meek and their friends from Lousiana. The group of 10 guys were split between the 3 boats Tropic Star, Island Star and Alaska. While they all had plenty of fun with the Yellowfin Tuna there were also a number of them that caught their first Sailfish and Black Marlin. Tom Meek and Paul Mayeaux caught their first Black Marlin. Kevin Vaughn nailed his first Sailfish. Jason, Stephen and dad Alfred Koennen, Jay and Jed Howington, and Edward Francis also were in on the action with the Sailfish. Kevin Vaughn caught a huge Snapper of 45lbs.
Pedro Velez caught his first Blue Marlin while fishing on the England together with his friends Paul Fulginiti, Michael Moyer and Gerden Riemenschneider. Paul caught a lovely Pacific Sailfish.
Mike Kruczek, Joe Hernandez, Stephanie Gordon and Richard McGinley were all also in to some of the Sailfish action while Patricia and Charles Novotny caught some monster Roosterfish. Patricia getting a humongous fish of 75lbs. Mike Kruczek caught the largest Amberjack for the week- a monster of 68lbs.

Black Marlin 9
Blue Marlin 1
Striped Marlin 1
Pacific Sailfish 21
