March 24 - March 30
This week ends our peak Marlin Season. We were blessed this year to have had a constant number of Marlin each week and even saw a record breaking Marlin week when we released 77 Marlin in 1 week in January. Your odds are always good to release a Marlin most months of the year at Tropic Star Lodge.
Rod Krug was unfortunate that his companion Gilbert Raposo had to return home due to medical reasons, but when it came to the fishing nobody could have wished for a more exciting trip. Rod caught his first Black Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish on his second day of fishing. Day 4 was Rod’s lucky day, he released 2 beautiful Black Marlin (400lb & 450lb) and hooked a third. His fourth Black Marlin came on Thursday and he ended the week off with a Yellowfin Tuna of about 100lbs. Great work Rod.
The husband and wife team of Duke and Lainey Potter were in for a week of absolute excitement. Duke caught his first Black Marlin- a 400lb beauty on Monday and then went on to add an 800lb monster Black Marlin to the days catch while his lovely wife Lainey got a 20lb Dorado. The next day was just as fruitful with Duke getting a Black Marlin of 350lbs. It was Lainey’s turn next and she caught her first Blue Marlin. They also had a lot of fun catching numerous Yellowfin Tuna.
Deborah Lukonen, Larry Haider, Jon Dagel and Chris Klashen came for a week’s break from work and a lot of fishing fun. Larry was first off with his first Black Marlin, a great fish of 400lbs. Next was Jon’s turn to catch his first Pacific Sailfish. Then Chris got to get his turn to do battle with a 450lb Black Marlin for his first Black. Deborah was the official supporter and photographer for the week not to add the cheeriest lady around.
Aldo and Sandy Cipponeri shared the Tropic Star with Enzo and Patty Cipponeri. Aldo and Patty taking the first 3 days and Enzo and Patty the last 3. Aldo caught his first Black Marlin, a large fish of 400lbs. Enzo and Patty having a bit more action with Patty catching her first Black Marlin and Enzo releasing a great Pacific Sailfish of 90lbs.
Marc Vicini and Arni Heitner got a late start to their fishing after a slight delay on route, but there after it was all on track for them. Marc being the 1 in the hot seat and getting to catch his first Pacific Sailfish. This he followed up with an enormous Black Marlin of 800lbs for his first Black Marlin. Meanwhile the 2 were also having fun catching up to 10 Yellowfin Tuna a day. They also caught a huge Grouper of about 60lbs.
Charles and Sam Wildeman came here on their annual father and son fishing trip. Charles was to get his first Black Marlin of 350lbs while Sam caught a fine specimen of a Pacific Sailfish weighing in at about 120lbs. They also had some fun catching Snapper and Amberjack.
Brian Creely released his first Black Marlin while fishing on the Costa Rica while Don Bretch released his first Pacific Sailfish fishing aboard the Island Star.
A long standing friend of the lodge, Margot Vincent had a lot of fun fishing with her Captain Candelo and mates Alexis and Valois on the Australia. On Thursday Margot caught 4 Amberjack, 4 Roosterfish and 3 Snapper. She also caught a Roosterfish of about 40lbs and a number of Yellowfin Tuna plus a delectable Wahoo.
Young Cory Giordano’s 10th birthday present was a fishing trip from his parents Glenn and Gina Giordano. Cory had great fun catching a variety of fish. The biggest being a 47lb Amberjack. He also caught 11 Yellowfin Tuna in one day while mom and dad took photo’s.
