March 6-11
I have never seen so many anglers be so happy with a tough week of fishing. Yes, the fishing was slow this week but with our hard working crews and staff of Tropic Star lodge our clients had a ball and some nice fish were landed.
The Action:
First a special thanks to Miguel and Pilar De Lasa who brought the biggest group of Peruvian anglers the lodge has ever had at one time. They all had a good time, muchos gracias.
Fishing the Miss Tropic Star, Canada, England and Scandia they released 30 sailfish! A black marlin for Carlos Bentin Remy. Armando Negri caught his first striped marlin, Alfonso Simpson caught a monster yellowfin tuna of 271 lbs! Javier Chaves, Alfonso Simpson, Phillipe Ferraro all got their first sailfish. Jose De Lasa weighed in a yellowfin tuna of 210lbs, and Javier Chavez landed a 120lb tuna.
Armando Negri was thrilled with his 200lb yellowfin. There was no lack of sushi.
Gordon Brauninger and Robert Milgram fished the Miss Spain. Robert caught a nice sailfish on his fly rod, offering it to the sailfish Gods in many pieces afterwards.
Phil Riley, Andrew Thomas and Kevin Gardner traveled all the way from England and fished the Miss Island Star. They mainly fished for marlin but released 6 sailfish and Andrew released his first black marlin. They brought in some yellowfin tuna as well- Andrew Thomas – 120lbs and Phil Riley – 206 lbs.
Chris and Micah Reynolds fished the Miss Darien, they released 5 sails including Micah’s first sail. Micah enjoyed his fight with his 129lb yellowfin tuna. What a catch for this avid 15 year old angler, his dad’s yellowfin weighed in at 242lbs.
James Jefferson and Chuck Luse fished the Miss Australia. Chuck released his first sailfish and brought home a 132lb yellowfin.
Ron Lachut fished the Miss Panama and released 10 sailfish. Ron also caught a hefty roosterfish of 71lbs.
Robert Sauers and Theodoro Frei fished the Miss Puerto Rico. They released 9 sailfish, snapper, tuna and dorados.
Jack and Cindy Strack, Jeff Strack and Shawn Brumbaugh fished the Miss Costa Rica, they released 10 sailfish including Shawn's first.
Weather:
Very different weather patterns, more rain in the dry season, sea is very calm, and winds still south. We’re looking for that change in the wind…
Tight Lines,
Hennie and Ursula Marais
