Hennie & Ursula Marais manage to keep you in fish stories. |
May 22-29, 2004
After a very slow period we are catching fish again. This week started extremely slow. Most of our boats fished the first half of the week and released only 64 sails. On Friday the bite took off and the Miss Australia, Tropic Star and Panama released 32 for the day!
The Action:
With the billfishing so slow many anglers opted to fish inshore and we had some great Cubera snapper and roosterfishing.
Welcome to the Beinke and Behring families that visited us after 12 years, sorry you guys departed just before the good bite that you are used to came about. Everybody had a good time anyway and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and their break away from their busy lives in the USA. They held a inter family "Blackhawk" tournament - Randy Avon was their tournament co-ordinator and did a fine job at presentation night. Charlie Butterfield their travel co-ordinator won most fish and Scott Behring won most sailfish released.
Our North Carolina boys Mark Fortier, Mike Anderson, Arthur McPherson, and Andy Elliott were the lucky ones staying the whole week and they released 18 on Friday. They raised 30 sails on Friday and had 4 or 5 up at one time!
They also released a blue marlin and raised two black marlin. These guys pulled tricks on each other all week and discovered the Spanish saying "Chuleta!"
Harry and his son Curtis Bush had a good time on the Tropic Star with Captain Alberto. Curtis released his first sailfish and spent a lot of time missing about 9 fish to get a sailfish on fly. He succeeded, well done Curtis!
Dr. Hobie Richie with his son Hobie returned yet another time for a half week, this time bringing their friends Steve and Carlton Hazeltine. They had a good time on the Miss Panama and made us promise that we would accept nothing less than a full week reservation for next year. Carlton released his first sailfish.
Weather:
Calm sea south wind 82 F water temp
Tight Lines,
Hennie
