Hot marlin bite, the past week we had a great blue, black and striped marlin bite in our drift line about 18 miles offshore. Sailfish action still good but a lot less catches were reported. Mainly because all boats took advantage of the unusual marlin action for May, I expect this to continue.

The Action:

April to September we offer half week charters so not all of our boats fished our normal 6 day week.

Chuck Matthews with his friends visited Tropic Star Lodge for the first time. They fished on the Miss Alaska and the Miss Puerto Rico for 4 days releasing 31 sailfish. Mary Tweedle Chuck, Heike Luengen and Willy Kueppers all caught roosterfish as well.

Jeff Dennis returned with friends and fishing the Miss Australia, Jeff released 11 sailfish and 1 striped marlin. Some of these were on fly. The Miss Canada released a 700 lb. blue marlin after a 2 hr. and 45 minute fight by Fred Sanders with the Jeff Dennis party.

Ray Gallagher, Sid Hendricks, Armand Butticci, Larry Borelli, Tom Seeno, Dave Koepsel, Victor Galli and Fred Sanders rotated boats daily between the Miss Costa Rica, Miss Canada, Miss Scandia and Tropic Star. The Miss Tropic Star mainly targeting marlin had a fabulous week releasing 8 sailfish, 4 striped marlin and 2 blue marlin. The Miss Costa Rica released 17 sailfish, 2 striped marlin and 1 blue marlin. Miss Scandia released 8 sailfish and missed a nice black marlin.

The Miss Canada fished 4 days and released 5 sailfish and a striped marlin.

Billy Wagner, Hugh Liles, Victor Tedesco and Tom Gulley fished the Miss England, they released 1 striped marlin and 24 sailfish.

Keeping Billy from the rods turned out to be a task this week. As usual this group was a lot of fun and we look forward to seeing them again soon.

Gary, Nicolas and Frank Russo joined us late in the week, they fished the Miss Panama, releasing 3 striped marlin and 4 sailfish.

We´d like to mention Edward and Ross Darling who visited Tropic Star from May 7th through May 12th. It was a trip Ross had looked forward to for many years as his dad has been telling him stories about how Tropic Star was 40 years ago when he was there last. It was always a place he looked forward to visiting and finally made it in May. The fishing was beyond his wildest expectations, the service was fantastic, the food was superb and the drinks were good and strong. He tried to talk his dad into staying a few more days, but he insisted if they did not go back to Virginia and get to work, they would not be able to return next year. They fished on the Alaska and released 43 sailfish and also Ross´s first Pacific sail.
