Great marlin action and grand slam weeks all round, 5 blues, 5 blacks and 5 striped marlins.
The Action:
Gary and Sheryl Meyer joined us for a second week and continue to have an amazing fishing trip. Friends Marline White and Ray Barker Smith joined them on the Miss Darien with rookie Captain Walter. They exclusively fly fished and released a 400lb black marlin, 2 200lb striped marlin and 19 sailfish on fly. Ray caught his first striped marlin on fly. Marline fought the black marlin for 2 hours on fly before Ray released it after a 4 hour battle.
Gus and Elaine Vogler joined us for the first time, fishing the Miss Island Star. With a young Captain Gavilan they caught 1 black marlin, 1 striped marlin, 1 blue marlin and 9 Sailfish for the week - a super grand slam week! Only here at Tropic Star Lodge...
Maria Brandvold, Jan Childers, Lynn Goodwin and James Paget fished the Miss England and they released 1 black marlin, 2 striped marlin and 11 sailfish. Lynn caught his first black marlin. Maria and Jan their first striped marlin and Jan, Jimmy and Lynn their first sailfish - they are spoiled for life!
Shaya and Ariel Kane - 2 previous Tropic Star Lodge World Record holders, fished the Miss Australia. They targeted Rooster records on fly this trip which is not at all easy. They released a potential record rooster and almost got the big boy!
Mac and Ellie Jackson fished the Miss Panama. They released 11 sailfish and caught a 116lb yellowfin tuna. They both released their first sailfish!
Willard and Madelyn Niessner, Ed and Yvone Burnham fished the Miss Scandia. They released 7 sailfish and caught a 180lb yellowfin tuna. They also released a 60lb roosterfish. Both Ed and Yvone released their first sailfish!
Jim and Angela Davis fished with Brother Whit (our dockmaster this year) on the Miss Puerto Rico. Rookie Captain Gilberto put them on the fish and they released 9 sailfish, a blue and black marlin for a grand slam week. It was their first billfish trip from home and a trip of a lifetime!
Fishing the Costa Rica Tom Yarrington released his first blue marlin. Friends Jesus Nader and Camilo Kuti released sailfish, they fished with us for two days.
Victor and Beth Nelson with their friend Jim Bissett fished the Miss Spain they released 1 blue marlin and 10 sailfish. This was Vics first marlin. His marlin was released on 30lb line. Jim released a black marlin of 400lb -his first marlin!
