Great sailfish action for top class anglers. We had an action packed week releasing 645 sailfish!

The action:

John Keil, Arthur Kidson and Francois Kock from South Africa fished the Darien with Captain Walter, they released 91 sailfish! Arthur and John both released their 200th sailfish during the trip. I believe that they are the first South African anglers to do so. Well done! Arthur also fought a 500lb black marlin on 20 lb line and 80 sailfish leader. Unfortunately he lost it by the boat when the leader chafed through, a great fish nevertheless.

Scott Mitchell, Robert Hansen, Rick Green and Joseph Ritso returned and fished the Panama and Australia for 4 days. They released 59 and 60 sailfish respectively! It was good to see you guys again.

Diane Locke and Scott Parsons returned with their Tropic Star Challenge Invitational Tournament. Regular participants and new anglers made up the 16 anglers and 8 teams.

The sails cooperated and the action was hot. Scott and Diane won the tournament with 10530 points followed by Bill Easum and Lawrence Morris with 8822 points. Top angler was Scott Parsons followed by Lawrence Morris and Gwen Hahn. Top Boat for the Tournament was the Tropic Star, followed by the Costa Rica and Spain.

Best entertainer for the week was Bill Crozier who on his eighty third birthday gave the show of his life – thanks Bill!

Best effort for the week went to Cindy Mitchell when she fought a big black marlin on 12 lb line for almost two hours.

The inshore fishing was very good for the few boats that had time to do so, good snapper and roosterfish catches were recorded. Dianne Locke was very happy with her 50 lb roosterfish.

Peter Mitchell and Gary Galiano caught their first Pacific sailfish.

Thank you for a great tournament and thank you to the other clients for returning to Tropic Star Lodge, we look forward to your return.

Tight lines,
Hennie
