Sept 3 - 10
With only two weeks left the season has begun to wind down here at the Lodge, but the Marlin definitely don't know the difference. Several were spotted this week feeding over the Zane Grey Reef. A few of our boats were able to catch bait and
Marlin without having to go offshore. This really cut down on the travel time, and enabled our anglers to keep their lines wet longer.
The Action:
Vivian Arnold and Drew Yerger fished aboard the Miss South Africa with Captain Walter and hooked several Marlin but were unable to reach the leaders, however they did manage to release a few Sailfish. Throw a nice Yellowfin and a couple of
large Dorado into the mix and it ended up being a pretty good week for these two
anglers.
The Russell family came eager to fish. Capitan Chito aboard the Miss Scandia led
Duncan and Gordon to their first Blue and Black Marlin respectively. Gordon also
released his first Pacific Sailfish. With the Marlin under their belts they decided to
head to the rocks and had fabulous results. A Dorado, two Roosterfish, a Cubera
Snapper and some Wahoo - way to go guys! Mom was the good luck charm.
The Ryan family fished aboard the First Strike (our 55 Hatteras) with Capitan Mike
at the helm. They spotted plenty of Marlin around the reef, but their bellies must
have been full because they didn't raise one. The Dorado and Wahoo came to the
rescue and saved the day.
Toby Williams brought a few buddies- Wayne and Jeff Harris, and Mike Rogers.
They fished aboard Miss Panama, and Miss Puerto Rico for three days. Each of them released a Marlin and couldn't have been happier. Toby caught a few nice waves after fishing to really make it a great week. Next time he'll try to surf in the
morning.
Tight Lines,
Tom Juhl, Resident Manager
Tom is sitting in for Chris Dinwiddie who jumped out early to go help his family in Louisiana. He has his work cut out for him and we know his parents will be happy that he has two months to help them rebuild. He will be back by the tournament.
