Sept 10 - 17
Nothing but happy faces in the Piñas airport as our last group of the season prepared to head for home. The group was ecstatic with the service, the staff, and especially the fishing. The action was steady all season long, and this final week was no exception. With the fishing so good, it’s a shame the 2005 season had to come to an end.
The Action:
Returning for the second time this season from across the Pond were Bob Nicklin
and Terry Clyne. They fished aboard the Miss South Africa with Captain Armando. These gentlemen brought enough tackle with them to open their own lodge.
Apparently it paid off because they released 1 Black, 3 Blue, and a Striped
Marlin. Throw in a couple Wahoo, Cubera Snapper, and Dorados and it made for a great week. Congratulations Bob and Terry!
Fishing aboard the Miss Spain with Captain Gavilan were Dick Ottalanga, Don Culeton, and Mike Magee. These guys all managed to release their first Pacific Sails, and Don even released his first Blue Marlin. With another Blue Marlin and
a couple of Dorado to add to the mix; not bad for three days of fishing gentlemen!
Another abbreviated week with great success was Don Gasgarth Sr. and Don Jr.
Aboard Miss Scandia With Captain Chito. On two separate occasions they had double hook-ups. The first with 2 Pacific Sails and the second double hook-up was a Black and a Blue Marlin. With a total of 2 Blacks, 2 Blues, and 6 Sails in
three days, these guys were on a roll. They rated the fishing on a scale of 1 to 4,
a whopping 5!
George Shillinger, Andre Boustany, and Jud Traphagen, representing the Stanford University Tagging Program, stuck 16 Pacific Sails, 2 Black Marlin, 5 Blue Marlin.
George and Andre both released their first Blue Marlins. They hooked 19 other billfish, but were not able to tag them. Better luck next time gents. It was a pleasure hosting you!
Mark and Suzanne Yelnick both had firsts. Mark with his first Black Marlin weighing in at 300lbs. Suzanne with her first Pacific Sailfish. They fished aboard the Miss Costa Rica with Captain Libardo at the helm. Suzanne also released a
200 and a 300lb. Black Marlin. Several Dorado with one in the 50lb. range
made their three days fishing ones to remember. Suzanne said, ”It was perfect”! Congrats Mark and Suzanne!
Ray Austin, Mike and Brek Williams all released their first Black Marlins on the same day; fishing aboard the Puerto Rico with Captain Candelo at the controls. Candelo can really put our clients on the fish. 3 Marlin on the same day is extraordinary. These guys also kept the cooks busy carving sashimi for appetizers. With 10 Tuna and a couple of Wahoo everyone was happy.
Thanks for dinner guys!
Having another great week here at the Lodge was Robert and Vanessa Falk. They fished aboard the Miss Spain With Captain Maso. Robert with his first Black Marlin at about 300lbs. and Vanessa released her first Blue Marlin at roughly 500lbs. With a few more Marlin hooked but not landed they combined for plenty of action. Hope to see you back next season.
A very special thanks goes out to everyone who visited us here at the Lodge this season. Work is already underway to get ready for the 2006 season. We look forward to hosting your next fishing experience here at the Tropic Star Lodge.
See you next season,
Tom Juhl, Resident Manager
