April 5 - April 12

Once again we bring dreams to reality here at Tropic Star. Bob Clancy has made 14 different attempts to catch his first Black Marlin, number 15 proved to be his lucky number when on only his second day of fishing he caught and released his first Black Marlin of 400lbs. This was after having caught his first Pacific Sailfish the previous day. Bob shared the joy with his wife Anne and friends Don and Carole Barber. Don and Carole both each caught their first Pacific Sailfish and Don also achieved a dream of a Roosterfish.

Sharing 3 boats was Gordon Krautsack, Dick Krautsack, Lee Flandreau, Stan Braun, Chuck Rieger and Richard Schneeburg. Rotating every day kept the captains and mates busy with someone new on their boat. Dick was to be the lucky one of the group when he started off with his first Black Marlin on the first day and then finished with his first Pacific Sailfish on the last day. There was plenty of action for the others with more Sailfish, Yellowfin tuna and great inshore action.

Rodney Turner left it down to the wire to catch his first Pacific Sailfish. He caught it on the last day of the four days he shared here with John Finch, Craig Wall and Robert Benson. The four of them were in on all the inshore action with large Amberjack, Roosterfish and of course the Yellowfin tuna.

Jim Vinson spends a lot of time fishing for different fish back home in Alaska. He came here to catch a Roosterfish and enjoy the warmer climates to which his wife Adi who is from Colombia is more used to. He got all his wishes with several Roosters, Snapper and large Amberjack as well as some nice warm weather.

Mike Dufek and Tom Lebling were in just as much as everyone else on the inshore action and Mike caught a monster Snapper of 50lb’s while Tom had his hands full with a Rooster of about 55lb’s. This in between a few large Amberjack keeping them busy.

Don and Peggy Swan enjoyed the 4 days they shared with Captain Gustavo aboard the Scandia. On Tuesday they witnessed a site not seen by many and got to catch plenty of Snapper on poppers when they found a whole shoal feeding on the surface, making it look like the water had been painted orange there were so many. National Geographic moments come to Tropic Star’s friends.

Harry Mason and Gerald Reyenga also got in on the great tuna bite that has been going on while fishing with Candelo. They managed to catch 10 Yellow fin tuna on their last day to surpass their totals for the previous 2 days.

David Braverman, Joel Waltzer, Kevin Aizenshtat and Max Kamerman shared the boats, Tropic Star and Darien. They also got in on the tuna bite as well as several Snapper on their short stay of 3 days in the palace here with us.

We were once again visited by our television show friends from the Italian television fishing show “Fish On”. With Raleigh Werking here for the first 2 days of their stay, they managed to get some great Sailfish action. There after they did a lot of inshore jigging and had a great time catching Roosterfish, Amberjack, Snapper and also ventured offshore on a few occasions to go and enjoy the tuna action.

Shannon Sell and Terrell Gunter were also enjoying all the inshore action fishing on board the Panama with Captain Dagoberto for their 3 days. On Thursday they each caught a monster Roosterfish around 60lb’s and then 4 more the next day to complete their week.
