Jimmy Stockton, of Stockton Safari’s visited Tropic Star Lodge for the 25th time and once again held their annual fishing tournament. We look forward to this great group every year.
Having not been here for 7years, George Matthew’s Sr. and Jr. joined Jimmy’s tournament. George Jr. who guides in Florida had the time of his life. He caught his first Black Marlin and a large Dorado of around 50lbs while dad caught 2 Black Marlin. They also got in on the Sailfish action.
Bill Wilson and Nikki Haley were not part of the group but were soon roped in to the tournament and made a lot of new friends. Then to dent the ego’s of some of the men, Nikki caught a lovely Black Marlin of 400lbs and then followed it up the next day with a Blue Marlin and a Sailfish to complete her GRAND SLAM for the week. Bill was notching up a few Sailfish in the meantime and then on Wednesday Bill caught his Black Marlin and Nikki a monster Blue of about 550lbs.
Todd Dodson caught his first Black Marlin, first Blue Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish while fishing with Art Lancaster to complete his GRAND SLAM for the week. Art caught his first Blue Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish and then after the third day Art was saying “Catching Sailfish is getting boring now”.
Andy Cooper was all smiles when he caught his first Pacific Sailfish on the first day of fishing with fishing partner Nevin Thomas. Nevin caught a Blue Marlin of 330lbs for his first. Andy then finished the week off in absolute ecstasy when he caught his first Blue Marlin.
Having been here last year Peter Legeza Jr. brought his father Peter Sr, and brother’s Michael and Greg. Peter Sr, Michael and Greg all caught their first Pacific Sailfish on the same day, good family effort. Michael then went on to catch his first Black Marlin and first Blue Marlin to complete his GRAND SLAM for the week. Peter Sr was not to be outdone by his sons and caught his first Black Marlin. Greg however will have to wait till next time for his marlin.
John Schaub fished together with Jimmy and his son Jimbo on the Australia. Jimmy however did jump ship on a few days and joined some of the other angler’s as their official photographer. John having most the luck and caught a Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and a number of Sailfish to complete his GRAND SLAM for the week. Jimbo invited or masseuse, Marisol, along on the Wednesday and she caught here first Pacific Sailfish and had a great time with them.
Jack Provost and Ted Bywater had an outstanding week on the South Africa. Ted caught his first Blue Marlin and first Black Marlin. This together with the Sailfish they caught gave him his GRAND SLAM for the week. Jack on the other hand, caught 2 Black Marlin.
Our 2 rookies for this tournament were Don Nachtigal and Thurman Kitchin. They might have been new to big game fishing but excelled when it came to fishing. Don and Thurman both caught their first Pacific Sailfish. Don however had to wait to the last day for his first Black Marlin of 550lbs. Their Sailfish total for the week being 19.
Bill Dixon and Bill Barnett were having just as much fun on the Puerto Rico with Captain Armando. Bill Barnett caught a huge Pacific Sailfish of about 110lbs for his first Pacific Sailfish. Bill Dixon caught 2 Black Marlin and Bill Barnett 1 while they notched up 18 Pacific Sailfish.
Paul Mears and EB Van Conoley unfortunately had to leave us after 3 days, not before Paul and Van had both caught their first Blue Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish while fishing with Captain Libardo on the Costa Rica.
John Rife III caught a Black Marlin while his son John Jr joined him in catching a number of Pacific Sailfish. John Sisk added another Black Marlin to his list while Don Kohla notched up 6 Pacific Sailfish.
The overall winner for the most Marlin went to the lovely Nikki Haley and second place was shared by number of angler’s.
Top Sailfish angler went to Art Lancaster.
