Billy Wagner and his usual crew of Bob Korose, Hugh Liles and Ted Tedesco were here for some more fishing fun. Bob having been here mainly in May had been eluded of a Black Marlin. This time it was to be different; he caught a 450lb Black Marlin to complete his goal. There was plenty of fun had aboard the boat with the sailfish and the Dorado action.
Dale Cochrane and Peter Holehouse have ventured to different parts of the world looking for billfish, only to be disappointed. That was not to be the case here at Tropic Star. With fishing starting off slowly, they thought their gremlins had followed them here to. Then on Thursday, the fishing gods smiled on them. Dale caught his first Pacific Sailfish, first Blue Marlin and first Black Marlin to complete his GRAND SLAM on one day. Peter caught his first Black Marlin to round off their catch for the day.
Having just bought their own boat, Jack Cook and Crystal Jones wanted to catch the fish that had so far eluded them. Jack caught his first Blue Marlin on their first day of fishing, making one happy angler. Crystal caught her first Pacific Sailfish and then handed back the fishing to Jack. Jack caught his first Pacific Sailfish and his first Black Marlin on the same day to complete his GRAND SLAM for the week.
Thorsten Ritter, Albert Gaisser and Charlie Van Bibber had a week of fun and great fishing with Walter on the Darien. Charlie caught his first Pacific Sailfish and then followed it with his first Blue Marlin, a lovely fish of 400lbs. Thorsten in the meantime did battle for 1 ½ hours with a Black Marlin and Albert caught his biggest Marlin to date, a 400lb Blue Marlin.
It was great to have 3 generations of the Nelson family here for a week great fishing. Fred Nelson left the catching of the billfish to his son, Erik, and grandson, Greyson. Greyson was first into the fish, catching his first Blue Marlin. Erik was in luck the next day and caught his first Black Marlin. Erik also caught a lovely Yellow fin tuna of about 80lbs.
Mike Popke and John Bauer shared the Puerto Rico. John Bauer had an epic battle with his first Blue Marlin. He hooked the 400lb fish on a 30lb rod and ended up battling it out for 3 hours, a happy but tired angler. He then caught his first Pacific Sailfish which was a lot easier. Mike caught his first Black Marlin and then John added one more Blue Marlin to his tally.
Dennis Cataldo brought 5 of his friends to see if they could match his 301lb Yellow fin tuna or catch their first billfish. Sonny Glaser caught his first Black Marlin and first Pacific Sailfish. Bruce Forster his first Black Marlin while Sonny caught another Black Marlin. Terrance Flood got an unusual first with a first 55Gal Drum and then caught his first Pacific Sailfish. JT Sherman and Joe Renison enjoying their fishing with sailfish and yellow fin tuna, not that they matched Dennis’ fish.
Giuseppe Omegna who is involved in the charter fishing in Cuba, came for a bit of Marlin fishing at a different venue. Avoiding the Dorado and tuna, he managed to catch 2 Marlin, a Black Marlin of 400lbs and a 200lb Blue Marlin together with a few sailfish.
John Taylor came for a boy’s week with his 2 sons, Cortney and Shawn. Shawn caught his biggest Blue Marlin, a monster of 400lbs. Cortney on the other hand was having some trouble with the dolphins, getting hooked up with one and having some line disappear rather fast off his reel. They also caught numerous Dorado.
Dwayne and Sandy Moreland can only describe the week as consistent. They caught sailfish and Dorado every day except one where they caught a Blue Marlin of 400lb’s.
Yvonne and Rick Buckley were here on their first visit of the year. Yvonne is an avid Marlin angler, but this time the fishing gods decided it was only going to be sailfish for her. We are sure they will smile on you when your return in February.
Phil Sanders came to see how things were going with his boat, the Florida. Well it looked like things were in good order as Phil managed to catch 2 Black Marlin and 6 Sailfish for the week. On Wednesday, “Queena”, a friend of Terri’s joined Phil. She had an amazing day and caught a monster Yellow fin tuna which weighed in at 152lb’s. The heaviest of the week, come on guys that’s the 2nd time out of 3 weeks where the ladies have beaten you with tuna.
