March 1 - March 8
6 Marlin in a week, 80lb Roosterfish and a 73lb Amberjack, more action than that one cannot ask for.
Rick Borgner, Bernee Dunson, Norman Peets and Gerald Dipterio enjoyed themselves staying up on the hill in the Palace while sharing the boats Panama and Puerto Rico. Gerald caught a lovely Blue Marlin of 400lbs for his first. Bernee was next up with a big Black Marlin of 500lbs for his first. Rick and Norman in the meantime caught plenty of Yellowfin tuna in the 50lb range. Gerald and Bernee went inshore on their last day and Gerald was rewarded with a monster Rooster fish of 70lbs.
Ron and Kelly Thayer’s week had a dream start when Ron released 3 Black Marlin on their first day, one of those being his first Black Marlin. Kelly was next with her first Black Marlin on Wednesday together with a Pacific Sailfish while Ron released a Blue Marlin. Kelly then fulfilled on or her dreams by catching a giant Roosterfish of 50lbs. On Friday, Ron was again in thick with the Black Marlin and released a monster of 500lbs to round off a trip of a life time.
FAdrezj Bilip and his son Michael were fishing with our award winning Captain Alberto and achieved their dreams of catching their first Black Marlin. Not only did Michal catch his first but carried on to catch another 2 more to bring his tally to 3 for the week.
Old friends of Ben and Carey, Steve Fishman and Mike Leach were having just as much fun. Steve released his first Black Marlin only to follow this up with another one later in the week. Mike had a great time with a Blue Marlin on Wednesday and also caught himself a large Roosterfish of about 45lbs.
Wayne Regelin and Marshall Linthwaite were joined by Wayne’s son Jeffrey and his college friend Jake Becker. Wayne and Marshall shared the Alaska while Jeffrey and Jake were on the South Africa. Jeffrey and Jake were straight into the action with Jake catching his first Black Marlin while Jeffrey caught his first Pacific Sailfish. Jake also caught a 73lb Amberjack while Jeffrey matched him with a 46lb Cubbera Snapper. Jake released another Black Marlin and Jeffrey another Sailfish later in the week. Meanwhile over on the Alaska, Wayne caught a monster of 600lb for his first Black Marlin and Marshall a 52lb Rooster to beat Wayne’s one of 50lbs.
Brian McDermott and Emerson Julian of Maryland have been fishing together for a long time and came with the quest of getting Emerson his first Black Marlin. This they did on Wednesday when they both caught Black Marlin around 400-450lbs. They shared another Black Marlin on Friday when Brian got the release and then Emerson fought it for a while longer so they could get the tag in. They also caught some lovely Snapper.
Avid fly fishing enthusiasts, Jim Sollecito and John Czebiniak wanted to catch their first Black Marlin, as well as some Sailfish on fly. Unfortunately their luck was not so good with the Sail’s but much better with the Marlin. Both Jim and John got to release their first Black Marlin, Jim’s around 350lbs and John’s 400lbs.
Joe Rice brought Michael Falcone on his second visit of the season. They were later joined by Rob Kittredge and his daughter Erin for the last 3 days. Erin could not have had a better spring break when she released her first Black Marlin. Joe got beat up by Roosterfish of about 80lb’s which released itself next to the boat, while Michael and Rob had some fun with tuna and Dorado.
Troy Hafner caught his first Black Marlin of 300lb’s while fishing together with Douglas and Roy Ingram on the Scandia with Captain Gustavo. They had some good inshore fun with Snapper and Pompano.
Bob Titus caught a Yellowfin tuna of about 100lb’s and a Pacific Sailfish while fishing with his son Nicholas, who caught a large Amberjack.
Luis Jofra, his son Bernardo and Rafael Gil made their annual pilgrimage from Spain for some fishing fun. And fun they had, catching Yellowfin tuna of 50lbs and plenty of large Dorado. Luis spent 1.5 hours fighting a tuna on one of the light spinning rods that are normally used for catching bait fish.
