With the prime Sailfish season just around the corner and the peak Marlin season ending, the Roosters are crowing even louder and the Marlin are still putting in a showing.
Frank Correa and John Cavellini had an absolute whale of a time fishing with Dagoberto on the Panama. Frank caught his first Pacific Sailfish and his first Black Marlin while John was having more fun bottom fishing and hauled in a monster Broomtail Grouper of 72lbs. If that was not enough, he also caught a giant Roosterfish of 65lbs. Frank did not miss out on the Rooster action with his monster of 75lb’s.
Jim and Nancy Barron’s week here at the lodge is what brings so many of our friends back for more. Nancy started the week with her first Black Marlin while Jim caught his first Pacific Sailfish on the same day. Jim’s turn with the Marlin was next and he caught a 300lb Black Marlin for his first. With a break from the inshore fishing they had a great time catching Roosterfish of 30-40lbs. Then they finished the week of in style with Nancy catching her first Striped Marlin and Jim a further Black Marlin.
Things might have started off a bit slow for Bruce Haggenstaller and Heister Linn but from the middle of the week the action hotted up. Bruce caught his first Pacific Sailfish, a monster of about 130lbs. They each also enjoyed the crowing Roosters and then finished it all off with their first Black Marlin each to complete their goal.
Harry Chernin was accompanied by Roger Vereb, Gary Johnson and Ray Morreale. Harry showed the youngster’s how to do it when he landed a nice Pacific Sailfish of about 105lb’s. Roger could not be outdone by his senior and released his first Blue Marlin of 300lbs while the Gary and Ray had plenty of the Dorado and Rooster action.
Evan and Susan Unger brought their son Bryan with to share the joy of battling a billfish. Young Bryan was first in the chair and didn’t waste any time settling in and caught his first Black Marlin of 300lb’s. Dad followed this up with his first Pacific Sailfish. They then enjoyed a day of, you name they caught it, 6 Yellowfin tuna, 1 Amberjack, 5 Roosterfish and 3 Snapper’s. Susan completed them all catching a billfish for the week with her first Pacific Sailfish on Friday.
Leonard Knief will remember his spring break for many years to come. He caught his first Black Marlin and a monster Rooster fish of about 75lbs while fishing together with his father John and family friend Thomas Puma. John also caught himself a great Roosterfish and Thomas a large Dorado and Snapper.
Although young Gianni Cipponeri was only here for his 2 day Easter break, he will also not forget his time here. Dad, Enzo, brought him to catch his first Black Marlin just like his mom had last year this time. This year was no different and Gianni got his first Black Marlin on the first day.
Bill Turner and Dallas Swan also had a short stay of 4 days. Bill did make the most of it when he caught his first Black Marlin of 300lb’s and then he and Dallas had some great fun with the crowing Roosters with Dallas getting one of 55lb’s.
Lorne Green loves fly fishing and his wife was looking for a large Roosterfish. Both of them got their wishes when Lorne caught a Sailfish on fly and then to make it even better, he caught a Rooster on fly as well. Nancy went the conventional route and this brought her the monster Rooster she had been after- a whopper of 70lb’s.
Brother’s Jay and Russell Smith had plenty of fun on the Puerto Rico fishing inshore. They caught Roosterfish, Amberjack, and on one day had fantastic Grouper action when they caught 6, and then 4 a few days later.
